Re: New to the forum, 8 year luthier

A Destroyer has never looked so metal. Lovely work; now lets see some finished ones :)

Tell us a bit about how you got started, your favourite woods, pups, hardware, and what you think makes a great guitar.

Re: New to the forum, 8 year luthier

Welcome to the forum.

Those guitars look very nicely put together, not quite my taste, but never let that get in the way of a top notch build.

Welcome aboard.
Beautiful guitars/artworks/masterpieces.
They ooze fantastic playability.

There's some highly GAS-inducing axes-to-be there, you should be proud! :headbang:

Re: New to the forum, 8 year luthier

That first one really brings home the bacon.

Re: New to the forum, 8 year luthier

Thanks everybody!
I have pictures of some finished, but not all of them have duncans, since i dont "exclusively" use ducans.
I have a facebook page, but not a real website. I didnt really come here to advertise, but more to just show my work and answer questions for future builders or novice builders. But if it is ok with the admin and the mods, I'll post a link to my page.

A little Bio of myself,
I started playing guitar when i was 15. Learned fairly quickly, and got pretty interested in everything guitar related. about 3 months after i started playing, a friend of mine and I decided it would be cool to look into building our own.

My dad has been a woodworker for over 55 years, so he already had most of what i needed to build, or at least to get started.
I started my first guitar ( a BC rich beast copy, horrible, i know) In july of 2005. It didnt come out great, but i kept at it.

I built my first full from scratch guitar build in summer of 07. It was a Les paul with a curly maple neck and a Ken Lawrence headstock.

It took me a really long time to get really good at this trade. But 8 years later, at age 24, i feel like i can compete with most top builders. I dont consider myself in the super elite category, but maybe in the future.

I primarily do extreme shapes, but i do love making les pauls and Vs. I have made pretty much every popular shape/style of guitar, with all types of hardware and pickups, minus a floyd equipped guitar.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
Thanks again for the welcome.

Re: New to the forum, 8 year luthier

Here are a few of the back. I just realized i didnt take any of the binding on either. I'll get some more pictures tomorrow, i have to work at church most of the day today.

Its hard to show the figure of the flamed maple in direct sunlight, but it is pretty figured.

And here are some closeups of the neck wood on the burl. It has a curly maple highlight piece in the scarf joint.

We're not Seymour Duncan nazis around here. We have a strong preference, sure, but you'll see suggestions for other brands if SD's aren't quite right for what the person's searching for.

One of the reasons I dig it here. :)

You ever done a seven string? i love that style, and I'm trying to save up for a custom guitar. Good work there.

I look forward to your future contributions! It really helps to have knowledgeable members around here. ;)

If you're building guitars like that at 24, things are looking very good for you indeed. Given that your father is a woodworker, you've got the DNA ;).

Your combinations of laminates are exquisite (I love laminated necks :)), and the use of figured maple for a scarf joint is inspired.

Don't worry about the lack of Duncans, most people here use other things too.

I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Re: New to the forum, 8 year luthier

I'm not a fan of the styles because I'm over a hundred years old, but the craftsmanship and choice/ presentation of the woods is absolutely beautiful.

Ever made any furniture ?
