Re: New Toy = Obligatory Pics

Yes mate! Well done on your new aquisition! I wouldnt mind either a single or dual before the year is out.

Re: New Toy = Obligatory Pics

Niiiiice. I keep going into music shops and seeing used Dual Rectos these days... and these bastards keep telling me that I've got plenty of room in my account to start making payments now. Argh.

And then I keep thinking too, I could sell off my collection of old Garnets and Traynors and probably come away with enough for a Mesa rig. Or pretty damn close anyways. Argh. Good choice mang.

Re: New Toy = Obligatory Pics

You "trade" your 5150 for a rectumfrier ... hm i don't uderstand...
hope you like the recti

I really like the rack and how you've installed the TS and the NS-2

Cause I know theres no way someones parents would be kool enough to buy they're kid sumthing like that, haha.

I dunno, a couple months ago I saw some folks buy their son a Dave Mustaine signature Jackson. Not one of those gold Floyd Musicians Friend jobs, but an honest to goodness neck-thru Kahler APM3310 Lawrence XL etc etc.

Mother: "He really loves the Megadeth."

Re: New Toy = Obligatory Pics

Nice rig, DSS! Rectifiers are really cool amps, hope it stays with you for a while!!!

That is nice. You need to post a list of gear you've went through. It has to be a world record in your age class! Enjoy and post some clips.
GJ in training. :)

Re: New Toy = Obligatory Pics

Sweet deal DSS. Welcome to the Mesa family, I'm new to it too. Rocks, doesn't it? lol.

Although I thought you had some sick tones with that Peavy 5150. Are you still applying the Maxon OD to the Mesa the same wayyou were to the Peavy? I was actually thinking about trying out the same thing with my Mark III on the lead channel. You gotta get clips up soon bro!

Congrats on the new amp. At least it'll go to someone that can play...

+1...

btw, other than money, there is one reason of buying the single recto instead of the dual recto?

Re: New Toy = Obligatory Pics

single has less wattage, and i think people like the cleans on it better than the dual. That's all i know about these amps, and that the rectoverb has really nice cleans.

You gotta blast that thing into a mic and show us some clips DSS!!

Re: New Toy = Obligatory Pics

Congrats, DSS, glad you like the amp!

I've been struggling with a Dual Rec 2x12 combo that I keep in my office, trying to get a tone out of it that is closer to my likings. I ended up going with the SS rectifier instead of the valve ones, swapping out the 6L6s for EL34s, as well as swapping out the 12AX7s for 12AT7s. (Except for the phase inverters, which have to remain as 12AX7s) After pumping the mids and running it on the Red Channel, it's much closer to the old school sound I prefer. The 12AT7s have much less gain, so I just throw the HBE Big D in front of it. It's a pretty good rig for after-hours jamming.

Re: New Toy = Obligatory Pics

Anyone want to educate an old fart on the differences between Mesa amps? I like that heavy Creed, Metallica's And Justice For All, Godsmack I Stand Alone type of tone. What gets that-the Rectoverb and Tremoverbs? Does the F30 or F50 get there? How about an old Mark IV?

Re: New Toy = Obligatory Pics

congrats on the new score jeff, your stack looks awesome.
I really like the efx rack set up, I could imagine setting up the midi was
a pain
(do you also have it set up for channel switching and for the stomp boxes?)
well enjoy and we all need clips soon.

For most of those sounds, any Rectifier will get you there. Metallica's AJFA is a little different, it's more fluid and it's a got a tighter feel. MET used Mark IIC+s on that one.

I don't think the F series will get you there...the Mark IV might do you some justice (pun!) on AJFA, but the Rectifiers are definetely the sound you're looking for...that saggy, authorative roar.
