I changed all the three tubes in my Randall RVC (the small black combo from guitar center that looks like a Randall Diavlo). The stock tubes were two 12AX7 and one 6v6Gt power tubes, all by Ruby.
I changed them because the amp seems to have lost some headroom and power. I added all electro harmonix tubes. I chose them cuz I wanted high gain. I have other brands of tubes in my other amps.
My first assessment is the amp changed from being fendery shrilly and trebly to now more deeper, more gain, and more headroom. I just need more playing time to make a full assessment. But now I can hear all three modes clearly (scooped, regular, midhump) and my neck pickup has more energy. I was using my epiphone les paul and the pups were pearly gates neck and custom5 bridge. This guitar gives me a classic rock to hard rock sound. With the tube change the guitar sounded meaner. So thumbs up.
What I liked about the amp when I first got it was that it cuts through the mix when recording -- I haven't done this yet so we'll see.
Just wanted to add my review.
