New Tune - Nightlights

New Tune Day!

The original concept I had in my head was a kid going to sleep and having his dreams turn into nightmares.

Started out sounding trying to do a Policeish thing with a lot of sus2 and 4 chords, but everyone has been *****ing at me to add more instruments so tried to go with two guitars rather than keep things to a bass/drums/guitar trio. And then immediately got stuck, so abandoned it for a couple months. Came back to it and had a couple riffs pop into place . . . but it ended up a bit further from the Police than was in the original plan.

Locked myself in the basement and spent some time to write/program/record stuff today. Yeah, I know there are some wonky timing issues, and the first solo doesn't quite work for me . . . but I'm throwing in the towel. I don't even know what genre I'm doing any more. :P (Also, it's a damned wonder my family hasn't killed me yet . . . had the amp up well past acceptable lock-down volumes - and my six year old son was humming the distorted riff all through supper today.)

Demanic, everything from about 1:25 on is for you buddy. It's as heavy as I've made a 335 and strat through a fender style amp sound:

As always, comments and suggestions for future improvements welcome. While my ego hates you for them, the changes I've been making based on what you give me is helping!

Re: New Tune - Nightlights

I love the concept and overall themes you have going on. Don't love the square wave fuzz tone as much. :)
There's something weird with the drum part starts at 2:54 ish seconds.

Thanks for the comments!

The idea was to try to make the drums feel more real sounding by playing around with tempo, slightly changing the timing of some of the hits in the pattern, and randomizing the hits more than I normally go with - which seems to have half worked out. It was a learning attempt, and there are definitely some things I'll be doing differently in the future.

It's always tricky capturing the fuzz sound that you hear in the room. The muff is a temperamental pedal that always seems to be taking over the whole mix, or buried. I think it worked better on the solo than the rhythm bits. But it's glorious to play at high volumes. :P
