New Tuners For My LP: Which Ones?

Re: New Tuners For My LP: Which Ones?

Many tuning issues are from how the strings are installed...does your guitar only go flat, or does it make a ping sound, then go sharp? Seriously, 95% of tuning issues have nothing to do with the tuners ;)

I'd get locking tuners. You don't have to mess around with wrapping the string around the post, and they hold the tune better.

Maybe it's too late for this, and I've not seen it mentioned above, but the 2012/2013 LP Standards come factory fitted with locking Grovers. Chappers and Capt. Lee were very complimentary about their tuning stability.

If you have a newer model Studio the Grovers will drop right in. The newer Gibsons are drilled to the same specs as the Grovers. Not sure what year Gibson changed the hole size but my 2010 Studio accepted the Grover Rotomatics perfectly. The only problem is that you'll have about 3/4's of that extra screw hole exposed. I filled mine by clipping the left over Kluson screws short with a pair of dykes and screwing them in as flush as I could which worked out pretty well. You can also fill them with oil based cabinet putty if you can find a match or, as many do, just leave them exposed.
