It's one of those tunings that Stephen Stills and/or Jimmy Page has used. Works well with slide.

If I was using an open tuning for slide, I’d go D or G. Tunings that don’t have one finger chords baked in aren’t any better for slide than standard.

Now, if we’re talking alternate tunings for bass, I ordered a 50-120 4 string set to do D standard/ drop C. Currently in D standard on my Warwick, and it sounds growly and evil.
