Re: New USA Select Series from Charvel

Yeah, love the color, but needs a Floyd and not sure about the satin color. if it was the regular gloss....

Just a question.. Never owned a satin finished guit.. Any benefits or differences as far as wear or chip resistance?? Im guessing not..

The only link I could find with the specs was on Guitar world:

During this week's 2016 Summer NAMM Show in Nashville, Charvel unveiled its new flagship USA Select series with the San Dimas Style 1 HSS FR, San Dimas Style 1 HSS HT, So-Cal Style 1 HSS FR and San Dimas Style 2 HH FR models.

Each gorgeous guitar taps straight into original-era Charvel DNA for a sleek, ferocious model with “old-school throwback” specs our high-performance players have been clamoring for, including Eighties-style body perimeters, finely shaped neck profiles, fast compound radius fingerboards with rolled edges, non-recessed Floyd Rose bridges, and more.

Re: New USA Select Series from Charvel

This does not help GAS. Those are sharp. I like the specs.

Re: New USA Select Series from Charvel

I dig satin plum. Would love some HH versions.

Re: New USA Select Series from Charvel

and thank god they went back to the non recessed floyds. Wonder if they're the legit German floyds or the OEM korean "original" floyds?

That's just stupid. What's the point of a Floyd Rose if you can't pull up? Might as well go with vintage style yet more stable bridge like Wilkinson or whatever; with individual saddle that allows more accurate intonation, and less tedious and problematic string changing cause you don't have to deal with those loose, tiny string blocks.

Re: New USA Select Series from Charvel

Still don't know how I feel about this. I'm afraid they will be too close to US Fenders. I mean...my Model 3 and 4 are HSS but it just doesn't seem right on these.

Bring back the MIJ ProMods!

As far as I know none, the satin simply doesn't pick fingerprints and smudges as easily but I believe can get glossy where your hand rests (either elbow or picking fingers). 2nd hand knowledge though so can't comment personally.

Well, apart from the spec-correct aspect for a Charvel (Jacksons were the full-floating ones), dive-only allows for down-tuning ala EVH and while intonation is indeed harder on a Floyd, once it's been made then it tends to stay there for the longest, not needing another one for a LONG time (well, as far as the bridge goes, not accounting for neck shifts).

Re: New USA Select Series from Charvel

Non-recessed Floyds. when decked, don't knock the entire guitar out tune when one string breaks. On a floating Floyd, it's an ugly situation to be in when that happens on stage. In addition, there is more contact with the body from the bridge rather than just the knife edges on the two posts. I prefer non-recessed Floyd setups myself. I'm glad to see Charvel doing it again.

Re: New USA Select Series from Charvel

They're pretty nice, but a bit dowdy looking to me, plus I like recessed Floyd's. My fave configuration is either HsH or SSH so that's fine. I suppose the whole nostalgia aspect is cool too ..for those into that sort of thing.

Re: New USA Select Series from Charvel

i would like to have all the sounds of a strat +one humbucker +floyd rose
so sh1 +sh4 or the new models?

Re: New USA Select Series from Charvel

I'm wondering if the new SoCal has a H-S-H route like the 2008 USA SoCal? I would have preferred a swimming pool for totally custom pickguard and pickup placement, though. Meh, that's what a Dremel and router base attachment were made for. Same with cutting Floyd recesses ala Vai.

Looks like they all come in the same 4 colors, as well, so you can get the Floyded H-S-S with the blue/plum you see on the hard tail.

Re: New USA Select Series from Charvel

With how good the Pro Mods are (original and all iterations really) I wonder how well this will sell. The Pro Mod is a seriously great guitar for the money.

Re: New USA Select Series from Charvel

Im not an HSS fan. Stupid middle pickup gets in the way of my pick =(

That's exactly how I feel when Playing my 2006 Jackson SL3. I much prefer a 2 pickup guitar. HH or HS with a Mini hum bucker.
I guess im in the minority

that used to be me but somewhere down the line i changed how I picked..now I pick in between the neck and the neck pup ..just feels real natural to me

Re: New USA Select Series from Charvel

Have had no problem with either HSS or HH, it's HSH that's a little tricky but I'm learning to manage as I've upped the play-time on my Washy MG-104 as of late.

The strat volume and 5-way locations on the other hand, not so much...

Re: New USA Select Series from Charvel

I have mostly Hum/Hum guits, so a single/single/hum would be add some variety to the fleet. Id like to have a Single/hum config. Though I like variety, so Id hate to pull a perfectly good pup and cover with a p/g.. Im a/r about my gear and try to keep it pristine and for some reason think every one needs to be a swiss army knife of tones. So few of my guits have middle pickups, I have a hard time playing with a middle pup tho.. always hit with my pick.. but that's my bad for crummy technique..
