New Zakk Wylde Brand guitars.

Don't know how many aware of the fact that long time Gibson (and Epi) user/endorser Zakk Wylde left the all mighty Big G Co.

He is starting his own guitar brand, and one will assume once that this up and running, he will not be playing any Gibbos on stage, but his own brand.

I saw an interview with him, where he talked briefly about the guitars, and i was shocked to hear that all three models will have a street price of $1100.00 USD.

Maybe it is just me, but that sounded hefty for a new-on-the-market, (unknown) no-name brand.

Zakk Wylde is NOT an unknown personality, but his far eastern made guitars IS !

Or am i the only one that thinks 1.1K is a little hefty for a brand with zero 'heritage' ?

Do you think he should have started out with something that wasn't what he wanted to put his name on? I don't picture him doing $500 bolt-ons as his go-to format.

Re: New Zakk Wylde Brand guitars.

from what I've seen they are basically made by schecter

Re: New Zakk Wylde Brand guitars.

If you consider that he may be buying existing products and having them rebadged with his logo, from an established mass-builder, and he's putting a dollar value on his logo, then it's not hard to imagine he's buying a $500 guitar and doubling the price. If he's paying for a $1000 guitar and only marking it up $100, good on him, but I seriously doubt that, either.

I'm going to predict that they're $300 guitars with an $800 markup.

. . . ^ ^ ^ THIS !!!

He would NOT have moved away from Gibson, and start his own thing, if it was NOT for the money, and financial gain.

NO BLOODY WAY !

So it is not even his own designs like that of Chapman guitars.
These are not relabed units, but true designs, largely with the help of Chapman fans, via his youtube channel.
Everyone could give some input into his guitars, and then he went to the far east to choose a factory toproduce the units for him, not an existing guitar brand, and relabeled 'em.

Atleast some of his designs are creative : http://www.chapmanguitars.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/ml3rcb.jpg <--- contoured Tele body.

Re: New Zakk Wylde Brand guitars.

Well... I would guess that Wylde's Guitars come from the same factory that makes Schecters. The same one that makes prs Se, Chapman's, Schecters etc. I doubt Schecter themselves would oversee the Wylde brand.

Re: New Zakk Wylde Brand guitars.

With absolutely zero knowledge, I'd agree with the premise Orpheo presents. With the assumption that all of those guitars are made by the same factory (better than the typical overseas guitars) it makes perfect sense that these Wylde guitars would be made there.

Question... How do we know who ended the relationship?

Re: New Zakk Wylde Brand guitars.

I'm not sure the price is such an issue, but I would imagine it would be in his best interest to offer a budget line as an alternative. But IMO the guitars are absolutely hideous and not something I would ever consider owning anyway.

But yeah he definitely has a distribution deal with Schecter.

good question probably gibson ima assume i mean they had him as a token for sooooo long and i guess with the new styles being played people arent willing to pay 5000 any more to sound like a guy playing emgs through a les paul. at this point its for the paint job anyway, but idk i mean his guitars are still on gibsons site maybe hes using both?

Re: New Zakk Wylde Brand guitars.

I read an article in a Guitar mag a few months ago.. He is going to be doing guitars, amps, pedals.. I cant recall the exact wording, but he implied that the amps would be very nicely done and the guitars of course had to be stage worthy.. Again, cant recall the wording he used, but basically was saying that with his own brand, it would be a better business plan than just a regular endorsement. In other words now Gibson pay him an endorsement fee and prolly gives him guitars, but they make the money from what people buy. And, this would also give him another creative outlet to be involved in the design of the amps and all. Something along those lines. But he did of course say everything produced under his brand would be top notch. The amps wont be cheap either. Im sure most of the stuff we will see along these lines for the next several years will be made buy the same companies. The good news tho, is that the Schecters, SEs, Chapmans and others are pretty good, if not great, guitars. I hear GREAT things about the Chapmans..

The biggest thing for me is, all of the models they had with him in the picture, were ugly... haha

I havent seen the specs on the Wylde guitars, but the specs on the Chapmans are pretty impressive. I wouldnt mind have a Chapman Ghost fret and it has hipshot tuners, tusq nut. So not all generic over seas stuff like we had in the 80s

Like to have this:

I remember seeing pics of them months ago and they were all as ugly as sin.

That pic above - that hybrid SG/Flying V thing. You wouldn't even be able to play that sitting down! Just buy a Jackson King V or an SG! :9:

Re: New Zakk Wylde Brand guitars.

I think he is using Schecter's distribution network, at least. My guess is that their factory is making them.

Yep they're more than likely being made in Korea by Cort, the same people that build the Korean made Schecter and ESP/LTD guitars. And they do a damn good job. My Korean built Epiphone Les Paul Custom (the one in my avitar pic) was made there, and it is an excellent guitar.
