hi guys im hella new to most of this so i appreciate your input and your patience. diving right into my situation. i recently acquired a JACKSON DK2FS. love the guitar, the feel , action, looks , etc. problem is all the wiring is jimmy rigged duct taped together and malfunctioning ( the middle 3 pos on the 5 way selector produce nearly zero output), so ive decided to gut it and want some input/guidance as to what pickups i should put in it and what kind of wiring config i should use..? im hoping to come up with a solution that not only sounds great but im hoping to include some kind of custom features not normally offered for this guitar, such as maybe including a push/pull pot function or maybe some pup wiring options not offered , such as maybe split phase, etc. thank u for any and all advice and input. as stated im relatively new to guitar, ive owned guitars for the last 20 yrs but only took up seriously trying to learn about 6 mo ago, but im fully capable of any wiring, soldering, routing tasks , with the proper guidance/diagrams to look at. im really excited to hear what you guys come up with.

What the hell's the battery for? Afterburner?

I have an SL3 with the same config and it has a JB bridge, SSL-1 middle and Hot Rails neck. Great combo.

As for how to wire it? You will never use anything but the usual 5 positions I bet. You could set the 2 and 4 positions so the bridge/neck humbuckers split, giving you a bit of "quack", but other than that, I'd just keep it simple.

The FS was Firestorm - EMG's Afterburner/Turbocharger 3rd incarnation, I believe., hence the battery.

I'd suggest a Duncan Tripleshot ring for the bridge pickup for all your splitting/parallel needs, a 500K volume for the bridge pickup, a 250K volume for the singles, a Master Tone, and keep the Firestorm.

For pickups I'd say Parallel Axis PATB-1 or PATB-3 for the bridge, Cool Rails for the middle, and Hot Rails, Lil59, or JBJr for the neck.

for "factory default", maybe contact Jackson.

there are a lot of typical wiring diagrams to be found at http://guitarelectronics.com/guitar-wiring-resources/

Good stuff - and yes, the "single coils" are actually humbuckers, so it's HHH. I suggest putting either a "true" single coil like an SSL1 in the middle, or, as Newc says, Cool Rails or perhaps Vintage Rails in the middle, just to make the most of the setup. Three humbuckers is a bit of a waste IMO, but HSH is perfect! From Dave Mustaine, to Mark Knopler and on to Dave Murray.
