Newbie pickup questions for Korina Flying V

Ive got an epi Korina Flying V, and i wana replace them with goldplated SDs. Problem is, I have know idea which ones I want (need two humbuckers). I play metal, blues and rock. Basically want good clean sounding neck p/u and a scooped mids bridge (for distorted rythmn and lead) p/u.

Also, this may seem a really stupid question, but I havnt seen any pickups goldplated, is this an option you buy later, or is it A DIY thing. I heard if you put a p/u cover on (gold one) it changes the sound. Put I definatly need the plating to go with the wood and hardware (http://www.epiphone.com/default.asp?ProductID=31&CollectionID=3)

Any advice - I truly need it.

Welcome to the forum!

You can order most Duncan Humbuckers with gold plated covers and wax potted for reduced microphonics.

A set of Duncan Seth Lovers or Antiquitys would be very close to what came with the '58 Gibson Flying V.

A set of Duncan 59's would have more bass and treble and more of the tone of Eric Clapton's SG when he played with Cream or the AC/DC Gibson SG you hear on all the old AC/DC records.

Those would be the sets I would recommend for more of a vintage rock and blues tone.

If you want it hotter, then I'd go with a Jazz neck or 59 neck and a Custom or JB bridge pickup.

Personally, i'd recomend you the Jazz Neck (possibly an Alnico2 Pro), and a Custom Bridge or a JB. The C5 will probably be a bit too bass-heavy, and the midrange *may* be a bit honkey in a korina V. Personally, I try to shy away from the 59's they're awesome pickups, but they're a bit to much of a "catch all" pickup for my tastes.

Just remember, if you get a duncan pup, and it's not quite what you were going for, you can exchange it for another one of equal value for free, less shipping. if it's more spendy, then you'll pay a bit more. Great exchange policy.
