Newly recruited Jacksonite..

Well, I've given in. After months of telling myself I'd never be able to afford a Jackson, I finally get one.

As some of you may know, I purchased an Epi LP Baritone last Wednesday. I know the guys at the shop real well, so they told me if I didn't like it within 7 days or so, they'd refund me any money I payed. Well, lo and behold, that same day I was looking at the Jackson rack, and noticed the only one with a trem bar already on the guitar (they usually keep the trem bars in boxes behind the desks). So, it piqued my interest, and I decided to try it out. It was not the Jackson I made it out to be.. well, actually it was, but it had a feature that I've not seen on any other Jacksons.

See, the guitar I picked off the rack happened to be a DK2S Dinky (Pro series, with the Sustainance system). I plugged it into a Mesa Triple Rec, put it to about 3, and just let 'er rip. Needless to say, it was pure bliss. It put out an okay metal tone, but the feel of the neck was amazing. I must've played that thing for an hour or so.

Anyways, I'm sitting around on Friday, just about to pick up my Baritone, and then I suddenly remember the Jackson. Well, I rushed back to the shop to get my money back. I prayed to God that the Dinky was still there, and sure enough, it was. So I traded in the Epi for the Dinky, but here's the kicker. I still need to save about.. $250 or so until I can finish paying it off. Which means I won't have the Dinky for about two months now

But here's another thing; while I was at the shop getting the Dinky (God, that sounds so wrong), I played 2 other Pro series Jackson's. The KE3 (Kelly, Explorer shaped guitar) with the really awesome Eerie Dess finish, and the RR3, in plain old black. Needless to say, they were also beyond amazing.

Well guys, it looks like I'll be saving my scratch until I can afford the KE3 and the RR3.. and possibly the SL3 :32:

EDIT: I forgot the most important part of the post.

Seeing as the Sustainance system is active, I figured why not have the whole thing active? So, my question is, should I try the Quik-Connect ease and simplicity of EMG's, or the LiveWire route?

I think Jacksons are ok. My friend has an RR3 for sale at £200. I really don't know if I should buy it or not.

EEEhhhh I tried one USA Jackson and I was disapointed. Stupid shops here don't set up their guitars very well. Of course quality wise nothing felt bad. Pots and switch were not flimsy or cheap, the finish was amazing looking and the fretboard smooth as hell... It just needed a set up.
Ahhh I wish I had a Jackson. I think the next guitar is going to be the COW in 6 strings. Welcome to the Jackson/Charvel elite

I haven't held/played a USA one yet, but considering how good the MIJ ones are, the USA's must kick some serious ass!

I have never had a Jackson dissapoint me.

The USA stuff is better, but the Indian and Japaneese stuff plays very good also.

Every company has a couple of bad eggs, but I would like a shot at a setup at some of these "bad Jacksons", that people seem to find.

I have a JS20 that plays wonderful, it just kills me. The fretboard isn't wide enought though. Great starter guitar, suprisingly good.

Anyway, the foreign stuff usually has poorer controls, as do most lower-priced guitars. The tuners can sometime be loose, and the FR usually needs adjusting. Also, I believe all guitars need to have "real" pickups in them. I am not a big fan of the OEM pickups. Get real pickups. This is not important when you are learning though.

To me the one tool that best lets me apply my talents to a guitar is the Soloist. I am not sure there is a better guitar made.

A mechanic has his SnapOn or Mac wrenches/ratchets, I choose Jackson guitars.

I had a JS1 which just owned all, it played better than my current ESP H207 does, and the price was half as much, haha. It actually sounded better too...these duncan design pickups sound like craaaap with my amp, lol...that's mainly the amp though, they have lots of noise...

anyway, jacksons are awesome, if I had money I'd definetely get a DKMG in cobalt blue and put a 60/89 set in there and replace the turbocharger with the midboost, it'd be siiiiick...and the tone with a coil splitter volume, so yeah it'd be awesome, although it'd cost so much it'd be ludicrous and I have like 30 bucks right now hahaha.

what is the main differences between the soloists and the dinky's?? (except for the headstock on some soloists).

Zerb or some others can fill you in on any other differences I'm missing or the exceptions to this one, but the main difference is a Dinky is bolt on and the Soloist is neck through.

that discussion is going on atht e JCF currently

some say that the soloist body is bigger than the dinky body. (the soloist being normal strat shape and the dinky 7/8ths of a strat)
the others say that the bodies are the same.

so the only diference that I know, is that the dinky has a bolt on neck and the soloist is a neck though
on production models, the dinky has an oiled neck, the soloist has a painted one

Right...and also USA Dinkies come stock with EMG's, whereas USA Soloists come stock with Duncans. I've also noticed that Dinkies' bodies aren't as smoothly contoured as the Soloists.

USA Jacksons necks feel great!!!!! One of my favourite necks of all time is my 1987 Charvel and i have picked up lots of Jacksons with a simular neck shape....

I think Jackson is one of the very few companies that can produce excellent import guitars. Epiphone seems to be a hit-or-miss, and it seems one in every five Epi's is alright.

I played numerous other Jacksons today at the shop, mostly the Pro series. The Kelly and the Rhoads both felt amazing, and the Duncan Detonator pups seemed to just do the job through a Mesa Stiletto. I didn't let myself lay hands on a USA model, I figured it wasn't a good idea. But nonetheless, import Jacksons still kick numerous amounts of ass!

Besides my Charvel i also use 2 1994 imported Performer series Reverse Dinkys when i need Floyd Roses... One is red sunburst and one is a solid blue.... Both the same model.. Paper thin necks on those ones.... Much better guitars then the Ibanezs in the same price range at the time..

Ya i bought my red Reverse Dinky (24 fret neck) at full price in 1995 for about $800 Canadian.... I foolishly replaced the Floyd with a FR Original and it does not fit 100% correct but i got it to work..... The neck has been refretted and re-radiused to work better with the new Floyd..... I spent a lot of money on that guitar doing stupid upgrades! About another $600 on FRO, Ducan pickup, and RE-Fret labour costs... It didn't need new frets but at the time i liked smaller fret wire... Even if i regret doing all that craziness to that guitar i have pretty much called it my Number 1 for the last 10 years. I have been debating returning that guitar back to Jackson specs with the Original pickups, Jackson Floyd, and Huge frets... Also been debating finding a replacement neck for it instead of refreting that neck again.... maybe EBAY-(i don't trust ebay mind you) or going thru my Jackson dealer can be expensive...

About 6 years ago a local shop had a Blue 94 reverse Dinky come in..... exact same Performance model as my red one i butchered... $300 Canadian.... It was stock but like many cheap Floyd copy bridges the posts threads moved around too much... i replaced them with the hardened Floyd posts from Stew Mac and it is a great guitar! Wish i had kept my red one stock..... I really like the stock pickups. I feel i wasted too much money trying to customize it when it was really great to begin with... Young and Stupid... at least i have a stock version to play as well.

I missed out in buying a 3rd mid 90's Performance Reverse Dinky, it was green and the only thing missing was the clamps for the floyds nut. It too sold for $300 but i missed my chance buying it.
