I had a great PRS CE-24 for many years, but just disn't play it any more- so I put it on Craigs list and a guy offered up a Splawn Street Rod- I turned it down because I think of Splawn as metal and I'm a rock/blues guy-
So he comes back, sweetens the deal with a MIM strat and that made all the difference- I imagined the value was high enough that a trade made sense and I could sell them easier than the PRS-
I first tried out the Splawn with my HSS Parker ( JB, cruiser and Cool rail in the neck)- I could dial in some bluesy stuff, but I wasn't convinced yet-
However, when he pulled out the 99 MIM, everything changed- The clean channel sparkles, gear 1 gives me great blues/ early stones and gear 2 is Blue Oyster Cult to ACDC. My guess is the strat's lower output pups brought the gain back into my comfort zone- can't wait to try it out with the rest of my lower powered guitars. Got a feeling I'll be holding onto it a while and guessing that I might start taking a tube amp out again.

I guess the moral to the story is I had to hear it to get the point that a Splawn doesn't have to be high gain- I'll record something later this week and post here.
And thanks for input on the thread where I started the research-
