NGD: 2 Custom 1x12 Guitar Cabs

Snake Aces

Singlecut Slut
Here they are, my mini-full-stack of two 1x12 cabs featuring Eminence Cannabis Rex speakers, removable back panels for 33% open-back operation, custom blue snakeskin tolex, and black powdercoated steel mesh grilles.

Now I'm just waiting for my Traynor YCV50 Blue to be converted into a head and shipped back to me so I can hear these babies in stereo next to the 2x12 hooked up to my HK GM40 Deluxe. I don't expect the amp back very soon, I'm sure that project is going to take some time for guitarfeak.

More details, including where to find the builder who custom built these cabs can be found in this thread:

Another photo with the flash on. It's not sunny here today otherwise I'd take these outside for a shoot.

When I built a 1x12 cab for my amp, I made it convertible closed/open, but I wouldn't think of doing so on-stage during a gig. Maybe just me, but at a gig I always saw a screwdriver-moment as an emergency, rather than a tonal choice.

yeah, i always have a screwdriver with me, but i wouldnt make that change at a gig. if that was my rig, id probably keep one semi-open back and one closed. the only game day decision is which cab is on top and which one gets the mic

I will experiment with the open back option for sure!
I have a single 1x12 cab that's convertible. I used to run it closed for years, thinking that it would give me a tighter bass response for metal. But for the last few years, I've been running it open because it brightens it up a bit. That and I'm only using a 5W head so it doesn't really need the closed back.
But I'm betting that with two, especially with the same speakers, you can get the best of both worlds. Oh, and a 16ohm C-Rex is what's in my cab.

Nice! I'll be using these two cabs with a 50W head. I might experiment with the bottom cab closed and the top cab open at some point. I'm going to break them in as closed cabs and go from there.

Maybe an on break adjustment or sound check at larger events
for me, i dont think id do it. placement of top or bottom, and which cab gets the mic, would be sorted out at sound check. most festival sets i play are 75 or 90 minutes straight, no time to futz with the rig
