A former associate of mine had both a Wolfgang Special and the full-on, maple capped signature model. To the best of my recollection, the EVH-endorsed pickups were "Custom Shop" inasmuchas they were developed to Eddie's requirements and sold exclusively on the actual guitars, never as an aftermarket item.

The humbuckers that I saw on the sig model were cream/black and mounted directly into the wood of the guitar body. I never worked on my associate's Special. I cannot honestly remember what pickups it (supposedly) had or what colour they were. Apart from the metal hardware, that entire guitar seemed to be black.

I can't seem to find any info online to confirm or deny what I was told about these 'custom shop' pickups as normal 1s are only Zebra, just what I was told.

I may just pull them and see if they have any markings etc underneath.
