New guitjo/banjitar/6 string banjo day!

Lots of black chrome everywhere. I replaced the head with a "renaissance" head by remo for a slightly more traditional look. From the factory, these axes are fitted with a clear head. Here is a link to the dean site.

you can see the pickup hiding under the skin. It sounds pretty good too.

I gof offered some gigs with a crazy dixieland/trad jazz/drunken barefoot bar brawl band. I was going to get a tenor banjo, but after sitting in with them on a cheapo borrowed 6 string, it just seems like a no brainer, so i did some research and bought one of these online. On this axe i can play all my jazz chords and lines without having to think or learn a new tuning system. Sounds legit in the context of the band too next to the tuba, trombone, trumpet and sax. Easy action, comfortable shreddy neck, slinky electric guitar strings, big frets. I've added schaller straplocks to the resonator so it hangs even and comfortable on a regular guitar strap. I'm pretty sure i will use it in the studio for different textures too. What is not to like? Winning!

That's the same one I ordered for the girl's mom here
When we got it we had to fit the bridge and set it up
I liked it, girl's mom liked it
I want one too

I've had a real banjo before and couldn't believe what a different animal it was from a guitar. That high pitched top string seemed ridiculous. I'm sure a banjitar feels more natural.

Sweet! Want to get one eventually–enjoy plinking around on them at Guitar Stores. Enjoy!

I played one at the Dean factory a month or so ago. It was a cool instrument, indeed. I don't know if you can do authentic sounding banjo rolls outside of a band context, but it was fun indeed.

That's a very metal lineup of instruments ...

It's not pointy enough, and of course ...

it needs a Floyd.

the whole thing is a disappointment. It wasnt available in neon pink either.

The perfect weapon against polka playing accordion players!
to be perfect i will have to fill it with concrete first to give it some extra "heft".

The style of music i got it for usually has a tenor banjo in the lineup, and all they really do is chunk out 4 to the bar chords and use a pick. The other great thing about this axe is that it has no drone strings so i can play any chord in any key at any time...something those "real" 5 string banjos struggle with. Much better for jazz tunes for sure. Got my first dixieland gig this Sunday. To be honest, it is a much better, easier to play and generally more fun instrument than i was expecting. The more i play it the more i like it.

Acoustically strangely similar to playing a really clear electric (admittedly with not much sustain) through an AC30...and the higher the note, the louder it gets.
