NGD and NGD stupidity

So I did a thing...

I bought this beautiful Surf Green Lacquer 60s Series Jazzmaster. While I was lining up the stand (with the guitar on it) the guitar fell off! The headstock banged the wall behind where the stand was. My heart was in my throat, my friends.

By the grace of allah, the guitar sustained only a minor ding along the edge of the headstock. So I ruined the otherwise FLAWLESS fit and finish of this guitar. I'm Very Impressed by the quality of this imported guitar. Anyhoo, though I'd share.

Re: NGD and NGD stupidity

Sweet! But that sure looks more like Sonic Blue than Surf Green. But that is what Fender is calling it.

Kudos for still being into vinyl. :fing2:

Re: NGD and NGD stupidity

Glad it wasnt serious! take if from someone that is WAY too picky about the looks/condition of my guitars and who is trying to change.. The good outweighs the bad.. Bad-guitar has a ding.. Good-its just a ding and now its broken in and you can rock it with no worries!!!!

Re: NGD and NGD stupidity

Offset waisted Fender bodies are always tricky on a stand that doesn't swivel at the base.

You might be better off with a robust stand that suspends the guitar from the headstock and rests its back against a rubber pad.

Re: NGD and NGD stupidity

That first ding always hurts, but look on the bright side - it didn't structurally affect anything and now you can rock out with it without worrying about it.

Re: NGD and NGD stupidity

Thanks for the comments guys. Regarding the color, it is indeed Surf Green in person, unlike some of the Fenders I see. The flash messed with the color

Re: NGD and NGD stupidity

You need to get one of those stand that only grabs the guitar by the headstock and rests the body on foam

There seems to be an echo in here.

Hercules stands come to mind. I have two and want more. Maybe the triple yoke model next.

I have one of the triple yokes. They're nice as long as you don't have to put it in a corner. They should be out towards the middle of the room so you can get to them easily. Would be better if they spun like a display, but since they have 3 legs, they'd tip if they got off-balance in a spin. Hmmm. Might build a 4-leg spinner. Or a dry cleaner's trolley type of thing

Get two of them in a big room and stand at the end between them and just watch the guitars roll by :D

Re: NGD and NGD stupidity

A question, why mostly punksters or rockabilly retro type players prefer the jazzmasters and not so much actual Jazz players?

A lot of jazz players didn't care for the jangly sound and short sustain of the guitars.

Furthermore, in the 70's, players began to trade in their Jazzmasters and Jaguars for Les Pauls and similar, due to 70's rock largely being characterized by thicker humbucker tones with lots of sustain. Because of this, many players who would gain popularity in the 80's and 90's rock and alternative scenes purchased used Jazzmasters for the simple fact that they were often cheaper than other guitars available and you could get a high quality instrument for less.
