NGD, but what am I gonna name it.

Re: NGD, but what am I gonna name it.

But what i was saying that if you have an angled headstock then the strings will already be running flat so it's pretty much pointless.

They aren't. At least the low E string isn't. The microtuners do get there, but I'm rather picky, haha.

Re: NGD, but what am I gonna name it.

What the retainer does is attempt to keep the strings flat as they go over the nut. If the strings aren't flat when you clamp down the tension will change and the guitar will become out of tune. Chances are the micro tuners will get you there but if they dont you may look at getting a retainer. But what i was saying that if you have an angled headstock then the strings will already be running flat so it's pretty much pointless.

I am aware of that and do agree with you. That is why I gave a few tips earlier on how to offset the changes that the locking nut does. What I specifically asked was, if the guitar is in tune when the locking nut is locked down, how would the retainer help if it goes out of tune then? It has no effect at all when the nut is locked down.

Re: NGD, but what am I gonna name it.

I'll be adding a push-pull pot today. I changed the neck pickup yesterday, and I TRIED to fit a superswitch in there. After an hour of filing, I was forced to accept that alder is harder to work with than basswood that I'm familiar with.

dremel with either a sanding drum or router bit

Re: NGD, but what am I gonna name it.

Don't have one. It's okay. Though.

I have the black and decker rotary tool and a small box of accessory bit.. if you plan on doing any modding in the future .. pick one up..they are pretty kool.. yesterday ,i cut and shaped a piece of wood to plug up a single coil rout ..

FYI.. B&D is cheaper than a dremal but works really well..

Re: NGD, but what am I gonna name it.

I don't have many plans to mod it, except for the previously stated new trem and string retainer, both of which require a drill. I'm not gonna do it myself, though. I have clumsy hands.

Re: NGD, but what am I gonna name it.

Well my first guitar is the only one I have named. It was an Arbor acoustic very bland looking so I painted apple blossoms around the sound hole and down the lower half. I then of coursed called it blossom. Now I do have an electric "t" style that I built so I have the brand name and the style named after me. It is the Schlosser Philicaster

Elmo? Angry Bird? Yosemity Sam? Darth maul?

I don't know, I never name my guitars anyway. I looks like a cool guitar though. I like it

Thats the purpose of the retainer, but If after clamping down the nut pad bolts the guitar goes out of tune, this means that there is a force by some strings that pulls the nut up, nothing wrong in the short run, but it is not good when the nut is forced up in the long run : unneed added force on the bolts, and also the nut screws, especially in the case of top mount locking nuts. You remember my franken-Carvin right? This has an angled headstock as well, but could not live up well without a retainer bar.
So the question is : does this particular Jackson have the retainer stock or not? If not, then maybe our friend Archer (HAPPY NGD MAN!!) could just try and wind the strings further down on their posts of the tuning keys.

I don't really mind using the fine tuners, but I'd still like a string retainer :3
