The build is excellent.
So far, I can’t find a thing wrong with her.
Plays really nice. No buzz.
Action is good. A touch higher than I prefer.
But, that’s ok. I’ll be swapping the 10’s to 11’s and setting her up to my preference anyways.
Haven’t had a chance to plug her in yet.
Will do that later tonight.
Floyd is a “real” OFR. Made by Schaller. Saddles do “not” have the beveled edge.
She just came out sweet!!

Re: Ngd: Carvin st300

At first, I thought, I cant believe they are still using that plate around the jack, but then I thought how long it takes me to plug in my guitars cuz Im paranoid about scratching the finish if I miss.. And how every old carvin Ive owned is still nice around the jack and how Ive not seen one with the jack bust out or something... Kudos!

Re: Ngd: Carvin st300

I am a big fan of Carvin. Just take a look at the quilt on that axe! Second to none! Let's see Gibson do that for the same price.

Re: Ngd: Carvin st300

It's getting harder and harder to find any USA made guitar with these features for the price of a Carvin.

The Jackson SL2H-MAH equivalent is about $2300.

Wasn't too long ago you could still get a USA Soloist for around $1500.

Even MIJ Ibanez RGT320Z is around $2400 now.

Wish more companies would go factory direct.

US Masters is trying it.
As well as Zion.

Very cool. I love black dye over figured maple - there's so much depth to that. I really like the finish on the back, too. Very cool. Enjoy!

Thanks, mike and brent.

Yeah, I wasn't sure how the back was going to look with the mahogany and black stain.
Not that it mattered. It's the back.
But, it actually came out very cool looking.
I've gotten a lot of compliments on the back.
Don't doubt you'll see someone ordering an all mahogany Carvin with black stain now.

Re: Ngd: Carvin st300

Congrats on the great buy man! She looks BAD@SS!!!
But what do you mean all-mahogany with black stain? Isn't that a maple top or are my eyes playing very bad tricks on me?

BTW, how do you like the ST shape of today? Is it the same as the old ones?
And how does it compalre to the usual DC one?
Personally I wouldn't mind if the horns were a tad pointier...

The back and neck are mahogany, the front is quilt

Thanks, Keeper.

Yes mine has the quilt maple top.
But, a few people liked the way the stain looked on the back of the mahogany body.
I could see someone ordering an all mahogany one with the stain.

As for as differences between the '09 and '89.
No heel on the '09. Contoured hump on the '89(still very easy access though).
Belly cut is wider on the '09.
Neck is a little thicker and a C shape on the '09.
Neck is slim and a D shape on the '89.
25" scale on the '09. 24 3/4" on the '89.
'09 I chose quilt maple on mahogany neck and body. '89 are all maple.

I like the fatter horns.
Slimmer would be too close to a Soloist then.

Re: Ngd: Carvin st300

Did a little set up today on the ST300.
Using my DC400 as a reference.
So, I took a quick pic of them together.
