NGD: Daphne Blue Squier Deluxe Stratocaster (modded with love)

Re: NGD: Daphne Blue Squier Deluxe Stratocaster (modded with love)

It looks real good with the racing stripes and the Wilkinson bridge which is an upgrade. But one thing...the vibrato arm seems to be bent backwards?

;>)/

Thanks and good eye! Lol I need to get one :)

Finally got it :)

Cool stuff, but how much $$$ tied up in the mods? Looks like a lot

Looks like a lefty arm? I have one in a strat, and actually find it more comfortable than the correct-handed version. Keep intending to order a Floyd lefty to see if the performance improvement applies for the different dimensions as well, or it just feels awkward

NICE. Squiers are definitely good mod platforma and have come a long way since I first started playing guitar way back when. I recently bought a Mustang Bullet and my brother got himself a SE Strat. They're both fun guitars and play extremely well after paying attention to some details (polishing and trimming frets, new nut, careful set up).

Uhm... ACTUALLY... the earliest stuff --- 80's Japanese and 89-90 American Squiers --- are considered the best

Me thinks the neck does not line up with the pickups. The high e string is too far in the fretboard compared to the Low E. If you correct this the high e would be more centered with the pole pieces. Just loosen all 4 screws of neck plate just a quarter turn while the strings are on full pitch. Then correct the neck with a little force and retighten.

^I noticed that in the "after" pic first but realized the first pic posted shows the same thing. Hope it can be addressed by wiggling the neck, but it's not a world-ending thing anyway if it's still playable.

Not much really tied up in mods, everything can go back to standard easily. I had to modify the pickguard from standard size for the bridge but that’s about it. The rest is (and eventually will likely be) reversible.

And on the previous pic above the arm was indeed a lefty.

Look at the neck pickup. Still think it’s an issue?

The bridge misaligned the strings to the left a bit but I tried to correct it with the saddles. There may still be wiggle room to align with the poles. Maybe I should have done what you said with the neck. I’ve never done that kind of adjustment before btw so I will need you to tell me what “a little force” exactly means before I break my pocket [emoji4]and I don’t even detune it a bit?

Looking at the pic (don’t have the guitar now) it looks like there’s a bit of space on the left of the pocket so that might do.

I love your guitar! It looks fantastic with that beautiful blue and mint contrast, and it looks hella fun to play! Congrats and well done! What type of Wilkinson bridge did you get? I modded my Lite Ash Strat (MIK) quite a bit like yours, and ended going with the 50IIK (or something like that lol). And I've never used an SD Hybrid p'up. I should look into that.

Thanks!

That looks great! Mine is a WVS50K, which is the same one but broader post spacing (I think).

You should try the hybrid, it’s a wonderful pickup!

That certainly looks better. That is a really great looking guitar. And I noticed the pick guard matches the racing stripes in colour...very eye appealing.:)

Ummmm...ackchually, I didn't start playing guitar until the mid 90's, when having a Squier was like having herpes.

They still had japanese squiers into the 90s, and plenty on the used market.

Lots of things were sleepers for a good long while before rebounding in value.

Re: NGD: Daphne Blue Squier Deluxe Stratocaster (modded with love)

At that same time there were also more deadbeat Korean/Indonesian Squiers (models Yamaha took pot-shots at in ads) than MIJ Squiers. Squiers felt/played much worse than they do now. I remember when picking up a random Squier from a store was pretty depressing; really poor fretwork, thick/inelegant shaping to the necks, cm thick finishes that made the guitar feel plastic and heavy, etc.

I really think aside from the very earliest Japanese Squiers, MIJ Fenders are too mythicized and rose-colored. By the 90s the Japanese Squier (and even Fender) lines were much more cost-cut and diluted. Coupled to the vast improvements in the Indonesian/Chinese Squier line I'd put almost any modern Squier up against a 90s MIJ and bet the new Squier would win out in sound, construction, and finish quality.

Of course they were out there. You'd still get the stink eye if you showed up to play a show with a Squier, though. Perception is a powerful thing.

Im pretty sure a bone-stock 50's Fender would get you laughed out of the room in the late 70s and early 80s

Maybe, but I don't know. I wasn't around in the 70's.
