NGD Epi Les Paul Florentine Honeyburst

ehdwuld

A Ficus
Well I got my semi-hollow it's gorgeous

The Probucker pickups sound great
When playing lightly they are smooth and clean
If I dig in and play harder they have a nice gritty growl

I don't see changing them just yet
But I believe I may just slap in a covered JB/Jazz set I have laying around

I think I want to change the knobs from speed knobs to chrome dome knobs
I like them on all the rest of my guitars
And I think they will look better

Moving on to pictures

Ok

Re: NGD Epi Les Paul Florentine Honeyburst

+1 for replacing the cheap-looking Epi control knobs. Nice book-matching on the top veneer.

Re: NGD Epi Les Paul Florentine Honeyburst

I'm so tickled I can't stand it

Thanks Jerry
It was your signature model that started this

Re: NGD Epi Les Paul Florentine Honeyburst

Which pickups did those things come with stock? Were they the old Alnico Classics or the newer ProBuckers?

Re: NGD Epi Les Paul Florentine Honeyburst

Congrats, great looking guitar.

Word of warning-Be careful removing the knobs. Those epi push pulls are junk and its easy to pull the shaft right out of them even being gentle. Been there done that.

Re: NGD Epi Les Paul Florentine Honeyburst

Says Probuckers in the post.
Wonder if they're Zeebs under the covers?
Mmmmmmmm....

yeah, the dealer said it was Probuckers
the peel and stick plastic label wasn't on it when I got there

this thing sounds so good, I feel more inspired to play
the neck humbucker is gritty and bold
split it cleans up nicely to a good jazzy tone

combined with both hums, and distortion it sustains forever
a total rock machine

I remember someone had a post about tricks for setting two volume two tone Les Pauls
I hope I can find them

I played it next the Tribute model with the Classic 57's
and the Classics sounded a bit more articulate
but not vastly different

on a different note
I played both through both a 70's Twin Reverb and new Peavey Bandit, at the store
I thought the Bandit sounded better
maybe the Twin hadn't warmed up good yet
go figure
it sounded wonderful two weeks ago

Re: NGD Epi Les Paul Florentine Honeyburst

Awesome flame on that top!! Congrats!! Yeah, was totally planning on swpping the pups on my tribute, but dang it sounds good as is...

the 57 sound great to me,
as I said in my other threads
and I am impressed with the Probuckers

reading the literature from Epi
it says the Alnico Classic PRO pickups ( the ones in the newer 339 Epi's )
are supposed to be the Epi version of the 57's
and the Probuckers are the same pickup just with A2 magnets

Re: NGD Epi Les Paul Florentine Honeyburst

Epi PU's have stickers on the bottom; Probuckers have 'PB' in the code. My understanding is that they're intended to be closer to a Gibson BB than anything else.

If Alnico Classic Pros are now spec'd like Gibson '57's, that's a change. They were previously the Epi budget version PU. Unfortunately '57's are the worst sounding PAF I've owned, and I've had a couple dozen makes/models of PAF's.

Yeah I looked it up and BB is correct
With A2 magnets
The Alnico Classic Pro and Alnico Classic are different
The Classic Pro is just like the Probucker but with A5 magnets

Re: NGD Epi Les Paul Florentine Honeyburst

I played the next to my Ibanez with the JB / Jazz set
And they sound very similar

I'm going to try them with the Carvin Belair tonight

Re: NGD Epi Les Paul Florentine Honeyburst

Just chromed the knobs

And the case showed up today
