NGD - Epiphone Les Paul Standard

Traded my old Thunderbird Bass for this. I'm seriously impressed with it. It's got a hell of a tone. I just couldn't pass up with how nice looking it is.

Also can someone help me date this serial number? The dater project didn't recognize it.

Re: NGD - Epiphone Les Paul Standard

I dig that color. Enjoy it! And good luck on the serial number.

Nice. The serial number is a sticker they put on for 2nds, so it's not an official factory serial number, and I doubt you can date it. I have a few Epi's like that. Does it have push-pulls? If so, it was made in 2010 or after. Have you checked to see what PU's are in it? I always put on new strings when I get a used guitar, and flip the PU's over then and see what's on the baseplate.

Good call on the string change.

No push pull pots. The bridge pickup is an Epiphone HotCh. Which will probably get replaced with a JB.

Oh, JB's are hit or miss in mahogany, especially thick mahogany like LP's. What kind of music are you playing? I play classic rock and blues, and prefer a set of high quality PAF's, like Seth's, A2P's, Burstbuckers, Fralins, or Parsons Street (and not '57's and PG's, which to me are lackluster).

I play slydge and doom metal.

I've got a JB in a Gibby LP and an Explorer. Plus I just have one laying around so I wanna put it to use.

That's a good looking guitar. That burst color scheme is my all-time favorite paint job for a Les Paul.

Re: NGD - Epiphone Les Paul Standard

Get that JB in there and report back. Hope you enjoy it!

Re: NGD - Epiphone Les Paul Standard

HNLPD to you !!!

That is deff one of the sweetest tops i've seen on an Epi.

Gonna keep the pick ups ?

Re: NGD - Epiphone Les Paul Standard

I had a factory second Epiphone Les Paul (Custom) and it was great. It's blemish was a pretty big ding / indentation on the top, behind the bridge.

I also noticed that the neck had been repainted. I'm not sure why the neck had been repainted, but the neck was straight and played well.

Enjoy your LP, they sound great.

Re: NGD - Epiphone Les Paul Standard

I think I figured out why it was a factory second. The bridge volume knob doesn't seem to have enough clearance do it digs into the finish. Which is okay, it's not visible.

Re: NGD - Epiphone Les Paul Standard

Excellent! Take those covers off!

I'd try the JB in there. You never know tonally what the Epi is really made of. Could be mahogany, could be Alder, could be kitchen table top.....

That reminds me a lot of this....

Probably 90% of the tone at 10% of the cost!

Re: NGD - Epiphone Les Paul Standard

I have a JB in the bridge of my Epi Goldtop, Pearly Gates in the neck. Great combo. I also have another Epi LP Blueburst with a Distortion bridge and Seth neck, another great combo.

Re: NGD - Epiphone Les Paul Standard

I've got a Jazz SH-2b laying around I might throw in the bridge. If I don't like that i'll try the JB.
