NGD! Fender content ...

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
Picked this up from Ludlow Guitars yesterday; '72 Thinline Reissue. Neck is a bit bigger/larger radius than what you would expect from a Tele. Tone is butter.

Thanks, I love it. Can't wait to play it in anger w the Champster! :)

Honestly, I've been eye'ing 'true' Teles for a while, but the deciding factor is the fact that I run around the city for my day gig all day and my back cannot handle my laptop bag, 10 lb LP, and pedals/cables. That's also why I got the Mooer pedals; brings the entire thing down to a manageable weight when I'm tearing around Manhattan all day.

Re: NGD! Fender content ...

Absolutely gorgeous. Tell us more about this "butter" tone! I'm guessing lovely and warm, but can do Telecaster twang, thick crunchy rhythms and creamy leads.

Yes!

I played it at rehearsal last night w/a BB Preamp into a Matchless Chieftan.

Clean, it has a great acoustic quality; a gnarly growl on the bridge, slight midrange suckout with tonnes of chime in the middle, and the neck is really warm and round without getting tubby.

Overdriven, it just has classic rock tones for days.

Re: NGD! Fender content ...

Awesome. I really love the look of those things.

Congratulations! :beerchug:

Re: NGD! Fender content ...

Nice. Telecasters are better than Strats, so it gets a double stamp-of-approval. Play it in good health.

Re: NGD! Fender content ...

When I have the dosh, they will be replaced. They are cool but I prefer vintage spec.

Yeah, but true Cunfie magnet replacements are like, $200 a pickup. That's sort of cooled my jets when I think about replacing the WR in my Tele. I did A/B it with my other Tele equipped with an SD mini-HB and I was actually surprised at how close the tone was to the WR.

Re: NGD! Fender content ...

Original CBS era Telecasters sometimes had stupidly big necks. Almost as though the belt sander guy hadn't quite finished. (I speak as a fan of the '51 Relic Nocaster neck!) They also came with an overly generous helping of varnish.

What is not clear from the OP is whether the new guitar is the AVRI or the MIM Classic equivalent? Unfortunately, I have yet to hear a reissue pickup that captures the exact sound of the original Fender Wide Range humbuckers.

Sorry, MIM Classic RI. I actually did not know when I bought it; I went purely by feel, not country of origin or sticker price. :)

The neck on this is not stupidly big, certainly not compared to my other guitars and past ones. But it is has a decent C shape and is very comfy for someone like myself accustomed to 1.75" nut necks ...

Yep, quite true. I have my eye on the Lollar replacements. $200 ea. Ouch lol.

Re: NGD! Fender content ...

If I were to get a guitar like that, or Powdered Toast Man's Tele (I'd probably go for that just because I need moar tele bridge pickup in my life) then I'd aim for those Lollars. I don't want something that sounds like another humbucker - I want something that sounds as unique as the originals.

Re: NGD! Fender content ...

Apparently Telenator is the only place that actually has the screw Cunifie magnets - and they have very limited supply - and as a result they're ridiculous expensive.
