NGD! : Fender Road Worn Strat

Re: NGD! : Fender Road Worn Strat

Well yes, but so does a Highway 1. I was mostly referring to the previous statements in this thread. If they're made somewhere else, finished somewhere else, and assembled somewhere else and then blessed with some kind of Haitian/African/Honduran/New Orleans Voodoo, I could care less. I just like the way it plays :)

I agree 100% with that. The Highway 1 said made in USA on the headstock, but most claimed it was misleading. To me, it never mattered, because the features and finish on those guitars (and let's agree there is a continuation in the 2 series) made them highly appealing, regardless or origin.

I've read that same crap and it's all from people on message boards like this one and not ONE reputable or verified source. It's just a lot of assumptions and guesses that have circulated and been repeated enough times to become accepted "fact".

And I don't disagree. What I can verify is that I have played and owned many Strats over the years. My sister still plays her 1993 Strat Plus and loves the hell out of that thing, and it's a great playing guitar. I had a 1994 and a 1995 American Strat as well as a 2006 American Strat. I've also had several MIM Strats (all 90s or early 2000s). With the exception of the 1994, not a single one play as well as this thing plays. That 1994, that was a once in a lifetime Strat and if it had not gotten stolen it would probably still be my main guitar.

Having said all that, my main reason for bringing all of this up is I know the Road Worn series gets a lot of static and I used to be one of the biggest perpetrators, but after playing this one my tune changed immediately. The same went for the store owner. When the guy who sold this guitar to the shop came in to sell it, the owner didn't have high expectations. He figured it was a cheap MIM that you're paying extra for the gimmick of it being beat up. It's really not that simple. I've played MIM, Highway One, and MIA and even custom shop strats. This one keeps up with them all. If it didn't, there's no way in hell I'd own it when I hate maple fretboards as much as I do.

Anyway, I'm done pandering and soapboxing on these. Just know that I'm not easily impressed, and this one highly impressed me.

Re: NGD! : Fender Road Worn Strat

My RW 50s Tele,Captain Crunch, is truly my #1 guitar. I have a really good strat, and my new 335 is awesome, but the new guitar lovefest always cqlms down....eveytime I pick CC up, there is this instant "jeebeus this thing is awesome"...and he says to.me.."no kidding dumbass..WTF is wrong with ypu buying those sissy guitars? Oh yeah..I need some new strings ...and a beer...now crank that amp beeatch, and lets Rock the F out"..

And I must comply,.for that is the Power of Captain Crunch.

Congrats on the new RW. A few years back I got to back.to back 60s RW and a 59 custom shop relic that was $3k sitting on the same rack. That particular 59 relic looked far more fake than the RW did, and did not play or sound as good. That reliic was a.dud, and the early RWs were done much better than most of the more recent ones. Mine is a very early production 2008 model.

Bottom line, good is good..play what speaks to you.

By no means was I attempting to imply that the country of manufacture had anything to do with the quality or how much you should like the guitar. MIM instruments are better now than they've ever been. I'm glad you're enjoying your new RW and I've heard many positive things from those who play them.

I actually didn't think you did. I think I just got started typing and couldn't stop! :)

Re: NGD! : Fender Road Worn Strat

Played my first gig with the strat last week on Wednesday. Once I took it out for a song, I had a hard time putting it back. It was outstanding. I actually really like the pickups so on my next string change I need to see if they've been changed from the original Tex-Mex pickups because I don't remember liking those pickups this much. I also have a set of Duncan SSL-1s in a guitar I'm selling that I need to take out before I sell it and try those out.

I'm playing a show this Saturday and I think I'm going to make a video of my gear setup for it and may even try to get some video of the gig itself!

Re: NGD! : Fender Road Worn Strat

I have a bunch of G&L Legacys but I keep thinking I want one of those. My favorite Fenders...other than the $$$$$ Custom Shop guitars.

Nice score!
