My current range of guitars consists of my Mike Lipe Virtuoso (super strat), my Carvin Contour 66, my custom JEM inspired guitar, Dean USA Soltero MHG, early 70s Gibson SG and an American standard Strat with Dimarzios. I have been thinking of how great it would be to really dive in and explore Teles, but I wanted something more than the basic standard Tele. I read over some of what Fender currently offers and then made my way over what G&L offers. I read about the ASAT and fell in love with the specs on the ASAT Deluxe:
Mahogany body with flame maple top
Maple neck with rosewood board and 22 medium jumbo frets with a 12' radius
JB/59 combo with 3 way, volume/tone and a micro switch to coil tap.
I then typed in the model name in GCs used online database and one listing came up, actually at my local GC in Boston.
I picked up a transparent orange usa ASAT Deluxe for just under 900, with a case.
Out of the 20 guitars that I have owned, this is one of the easiest and most tuneful guitars I have played and owned. The JB/59 combo rocks in this thing and it is not overly aggressive - it just matches up so well and totally fits the bill for me, playing funk, soul, blues rock and fusion.
I picked it up Wednesday night and took it to rehersal last night. I pulled off some of my bst playing in a while and I think it is because I have found a guitar style that really fits me like a glove. I am thinking about selling my Dean and keeping the cash on the side until I find another one of these that I can throw some sort of TV Jones or Lallertrons into to get more of a twangy Tele tone.
Anyone else try one of these? I will try and upload some pictures. I am not very good at doing this though
