NGD: Gibson Explorer

Re: NGD: Gibson Explorer

Love It! Not sure whether to take offense on the mirror pickguard comment tho... haha I believe I read your were thinking of an Alt8?? .those are cool as well! Chad may have misread that as he said you"ll like the custom 8..?? Anyhow, the c8 is a cool pup for them. Im guessing the PG is killer in the neck. I have a 59b with anA4 in the neck of mine and a Custom 8 bridge. rock on bro!

Re: NGD: Gibson Explorer

It's been a few years and is a little hazy, but I think...

Neck: I tried a 59n and the stock 496R. I ended up just leaving the 496R in there.

Bridge: 500T, 496R with A8 mag, Custom 8, Custom UOA5, 59B.....I think that's most of them.

In my Explorer I've tried...

Neck: 496R, '57 Classic, 59n, A2P, Jazz
Bridge: 500T, JB, Custom, Custom5

Currently have the Custom & Jazz in there, and I consider swapping to an A8 in the bridge every now and then.

Do it and report back with your findings!!

Nice!

If you ever get bored with the bridge pickup, a Screamin' Demon also sounds great in an Explorer, which is what I've discovered with mine.

Re: NGD: Gibson Explorer

I haven't bought magnets yet, but hopefully in the next few weeks. I also forgot to mention in my last post that I also tried an EMG-81 and 85 in both positions.

How were those emgs? Very curious

I didn't care for the 81, but liked the 85 in both positions. They didn't do mid-gain very well though. I got sick of them after about a year and went back to the 500T in the bridge, first with the 496R and later with a '57 Classic. These stayed for a couple months before being replaced with the first SD set I ever owned; a JB and '59n.
