Word on the street has it that the 61 Burstbuckers are Burstbucker Pros (A5) with more winds on the screw coil.

I also recall reading the same thing on the Gibson page for the first guitars that had the 61s in them.

Hi Ace... I don't have plans to upgrade the pickups at this time. They sound great!

I would describe them as kind of "more" aggressive Burstbucker 1/2 combo. They aren't harsh like a 500t or anything, but they definitely push the amp more than standard Burstbuckers or '57 Classics. They clean up very well when rolling the volume back and sound great for leads.

Yes, I've read a few places that they have an unbalanced wind, which gives them unique characteristics from the standard Burstbuckers.
 
That's quite a looker - plain tops (on anything) are totally my jam! Though I see there's a bit of curl by the centre seam.

How's the binding/fingerboard finish?

The P90 SG ain't too shabby either.

they are unbalanced, the screw coils have 261 more turns than the stud coils. all burstbuckers are usually unbalanced but its the stud coil has more turns from what ive seen

I like the SG a whole bunch... unique Standard with the p90s
 
Well - sadly, this one is going back. I've had for about, what, 2 weeks? I actually can't get over the weigh and the "clunkiness" of the guitar. It weighs 9.9 pounds which feels maybe a little on the heavy side for a LP, but definitely much heavier than my other guitars. While I really like this guitar aesthetically, it just isn't doing it for me playwise.

I bought the LP Studio (in another thread) and that guitar just simply plays circles around this one. The Studio is a worn finish and weighs in at 7.7 pounds. It is super playable and I feel like I can really move around on the guitar. The Classic kinda feels like an anchor on me...

So, I'm returning to Sweetwater. I would be lying if I said the price didn't factor into this decision as well. Just can't see holding on to a "decent but not amazing" guitar at the $2000 price point when the $700 studio is just amazing. I know I'll just play the studio all the time.

Anyhow... off she goes and I hope someone gets her and plays the heck out of it.
 
I have an LP about 20 years old that weighs in just over 11 lbs.

9 lbs is pretty light for an LP (unless of course it is chambered).

I've been trying to get the weight down on my builds and thought I did pretty well when I got down to 6lbs 1oz. My last one comes in at 5lbs 11oz. I like! I can play that one all day long.

I love the lighter instruments. The one I just finished from parts is just under 7.
 
Yeah I’m sure it’s normal for an LP but too heavy for me. The studio is 2 lbs lighter and is crazy resonate. Unplugged.

That's pretty light...about as light as possible without chambering it or using imitation hardware. (Just kidding on that hardware comment). But really, by the time you consider the weight of the tuners, bridge, pups, and electrical components, there's not much more wiggle room.
 
im not small or weak but i dont like anything on my shoulder over about 9lbs for a show and you also have the $2k refund. if hes gonna play the studio more and likes it better, that $2k could be spent on other fun things like spandex and wigs and glitter
