NGD...Gibson Slash AFD

I wasn't really SEEKING out one of these. I am a big fan of Slash and his playing, I think he is incredible!

A longtime friend of mine who lives near Chicago, from the Heritage Owners Club, had bought a Slash AFD husk from Stratosphere and assembled the guitar herself. She said the neck was just too big for her to get used to...so we met in Indiana today and i bought it from her!

I gotta say, I'm very impressed with the overall quality of this guitar.

The one thing that really surprised me was how thick they left the maple inside the control cavity...you HAVE TO use long shaft pots!!!

She used all top-notch parts.... Slash pickups, CTS pots, PIO caps, locking Hipshot open gear tuners, TONEPROS locking bridge and tailpiece and Switchcraft toggle/jack. Although, one of the pots is cutting out already!!!! (only a few months old) I've been having some quality issues with new CTS pots lately....has anyone else??

The neck is a BEEFY 50s carve...I LOVE THE FEEL...very close to the Heritage Custom Core necks. Its under 9 lbs. I was a little disappointed to see a 2-piece body...It's figured for a $3000 (new) LP, you would have a 1-piece body. Beautiful top and fretboard. It sets up EXTREEMLY WELL! Its PLEKED...it should!!! Tremendous tone!!

Would i pay $3000 for a new one, knowing what i know now? YES. ( i must admit that i feel much better paying what i paid though)

Beautiful guitar.

Yes, I’ve had quality issues with a few CTS pots recently. Nothing some contact cleaner wasn’t able to fix. Seems there was just some junk buildup in there.

Hey Brent, that's an absolutely gorgeous guitar. I've got a set of those locking Hipshot open-gear tuners and they are superb!

Any problems with the high "E" string "clicking" over the fret-binding nubs?

Love the look of that top, fret board whilst nice and dark looks unique if a little strange? Awesome guitar though, I’d love it!

I have not noticed anything yet like that

Nice! Love everything but the tuners, not a Hipshot fan unfortuntely but otherwise ROCK! Seeing Slash middle of March, can't wait

Gotta love a fat neck on a Les Paul. I have the Slash set in a Mockingbird - great sounding pickups.
Very nice guitar. I agree those tuners look just plain wrong, though,
If the Hipshots have nice smooth action, maybe there are keystone replacement buttons to fit them?

Cool but overpriced like all his endorsements.
If i were going to drop some good coin it would be ESP Japan.
Kris Derrig made the LP famous but it wasn't a Gibson.
Just like the Frank Levi SIR AFD amp wasn't the AFD amp Santiago Alverez designed for Marshall.
Truth in advertising. People will believe anything.

Yeah i noticed that too. The grain looks like its been jiffed with by the factory for some reason.
Lord knows where Gibson is getting its rosewood these days.
Most Gibson's don't even have rosewood now.

I saw him a few years ago with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. Amazing show. You’re going to love it. Slash and Zakk Wylde are the guitar players that I’ve seen that had absolutely HUGE guitar tone in a live situation.
