NGD: Good Golly Miss Dotty!

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
So I have been on the prowl for a Natural Dot Studio forever. They are kind of rare. I let one go that I could have driven to pick up a while back. But - eBay and patience for the win! And saved money.

Here she is:

I have no idea what those GFS things in in are - doesn't matter, they are not staying.

Here are my mod plans:

#1 Getting Black P-Rails / Triple Shots

#2 Getting concentric knobs to have a vol & tone for both neck and bridge

Finally, and just 'thinking' about this. What do you think about a Black Bigsby? Not really a wobble/wiggle guy, but hey - lets have fun! Would the height of concentric knobs mess with that? Those are more important...

Re: NGD: Good Golly Miss Dotty!

I say go for the bigsby. You can always remove the arm if you're not going to use it that way. I've been tempted to do the same myself.

Nice! [emoji106][emoji2532]

I say go for the Bigsby… The concentric knobs won’t stick up far enough for it to be a problem with the bar unless you have the bar set way too low.

Re: NGD: Good Golly Miss Dotty!

I'm kinda feeling a little art-deco here.

I'll get the pots and go for a while, then try the Bigs later

Re: NGD: Good Golly Miss Dotty!

I like the almost minimalist simplicity of the design, and I think a Bigsby would diminish that effect. I say keep it as it is or add a trapeze stop bar, if you can find the right one in black.

Just my two cents, but it might also look nice without the truss rod cover.

Re: NGD: Good Golly Miss Dotty!

No Bigsby were it mine. Alas, it's your's to do as you wish. :dunno:

Re: NGD: Good Golly Miss Dotty!

Very sweet score!

I want to like Bigsbys but can never jive with one...I would vote no to one but that's just because I'm more of a Strat style vibrato bar type of guy.

Re: NGD: Good Golly Miss Dotty!

I’ll vote no on the Bigsby too...
I think they look cool but for me essentially useless.

Re: NGD: Good Golly Miss Dotty!

Never had a Bigsby, and these comments are not inspiring....

So maybe I leave it alone.

Re: NGD: Good Golly Miss Dotty!

What about pick guard?

A tiered D'Angelico style maybe?

Re: NGD: Good Golly Miss Dotty!

As far as the pickguard...
It depends on just how it gets attached.
If you’ll need to drill into the body, I vote no on that as well.
Once you drill, you can’t go back....

Bigsbys are cool, but much like synchronized tremolos, they need to be on a guitar with very little string binding. They are also geared towards more subtle uses, as in your finger might have more range than the bar, but they are very cool for shimmering atmospheric chords.

They also have a very different feel than more extreme whammy bars. I actually much prefer their feel over any other vibrato bridge I've used.

Re: NGD: Good Golly Miss Dotty!

Yeah baby! Can't wait to hear this one live!

Right Dave....because, you know, I'll maybe play it at DOA. Or use it for playing Round and Round or Crazy Train. :lmao:

I'll let you play it with Julie.
