Hey forum brothers,
Haven't been on much lately, but updated last week in the sound room. I forgot to mention that I had an incoming NGD, but waited for the details to be settled and the pictures to be taken before posting anything.
Gentlemen, this is my latest acquisition; a Grestch Power Jet Firebird. It's pretty much your standard Jet body; heavily chambered mahogany, with a maple cap, set mahogany neck and ebony fretboard. Where she begins to differ from other Jets is in the details. Firstly, the bridge is pinned, so it's not going anywhere. I got mine used, so I think the only after market part is a Gretsch licensed replacement roller bridge instead of the TOM piece. Other than that, you are looking at Powertron pickups, that give it a little more juice. There's also locking tuners on the puppy. The bigsby was set up by my favorite shop, and in harmony with the lockers, she stays in tune like a champ.
Interesting overall tone. It's got some of the features of a LP, in the sense that the bottom end of mahogany is there, but it's very airy and loose, but with some detail due to the very crisp lower mids. The top end is glassy and clear, showing off the chambered body. Lots of note definition is pretty much the best way to put it. I've been playing my LP and my Strat exclusively for gigs, and this seems to be an interesting middle ground sonically between the two. I'll take her to the gig on saturday, where she'll see two hours of stage and a bunch of different kinds of music, and I'll report then.
And now, I give you pictures.
