Re: NGD - Gretsch content - Just checking in real quick
Ok, sober, non idiotic report of yesterday's gig with the guitar.
Guitar performed great. The sequence was Blues Jr. - LPB1 - Satchurator - Gretsch.
Tone I got was very warm, very vintage. It almost reminded me of playing a semi hollow (very close to a ES339), but with a more controlled and tight low end, and with a more punchy and focused mid section.
Under heavy distortion, the pickups can be a little bit shrill and harsh, but that tone switch flicked half way fixed that instantly. Speaking of controls, I just rolled off the bridge just a tad on it's independent control, and just rocked the 2 switches and master volume online. A breeze to use.
The guitar stayed in tune like a champ. Less retuning to do, even with the use of the Bigsby, than my Strat, which has the trem blocked. Maybe my strat needs a setup.
Overall, very happy with it all. No feedback, no unusable tones, just good fun. If you want a guitar that gives you vintage tones, somewhere between a telecaster, with the airiness of a semi hollow and a little more balls while adding definition, not a bad guitar. Not advised for anything super heavy or super modern, but if I had to tell you that, what's the point of writing this, lol.
