NGD! Hamer Studio

'94 Hamer Studio in sunburst. I know, a sunburst Studio is probably the most commonly seen Hamer, but I'm excited. It joins my other two, in emerald transparent and salmon blush.
The sunburst one is fantastic. It has the original pickups, which are a JB and a '59. I have owned several guitars in which the JB sounded jangly or ear piercing, and lacked chunk. In this Studio, it's perfect. The right blend of lower mid chunk and upper mid/high end bite.
About the other two: I wanted to try out a Pearly Gates set on my first one, the salmon blush one. They absolutely rock in that guitar.
With the green one, I wanted to try out a Screamin' Demon I got on clearance at Music Go Round, and a Dimarzio Virtual PAF neck pickup I got from someone here on the forum. The Screamin' Demon sounds chunky but lacks a little bite in the Hamer Studio. The Dimarzio sounds really cool. A PAF tone, but with enhanced, almost acoustic sounding clarity.
I am leaving the sunburst one the way it is.

BTW, thanks to Loud and Clear Music in CA, where I got the guitar. They were great to deal with.
If you're in the market for cool, rare, older gear (as well as newer stuff), friend them on facebook and look for their "item of the day" posts. I'm always amazed at the cool guitars they post, from Peavey T60's and Music Man Stingrays from the 70's to more recent Gibson guitar-of-the-week guitars.

Fantastic looking guitars.

Yeah man, new Hamer Day is ALWAYS a Good Day.

Big Hamer fan and those are some beauties. Congratulations! I'd like to find a nice Hamer USA Explorer or Standard someday. Had one, but a few weeks after I got it, the guy who sold it to me begged me to sell it back to him. Since he was a friend I did. Have missed it ever since.

Re: NGD! Hamer Studio

Agileguy, you looked up Loud and CLear on facebook I see.
Yeah, what kind of made the sunburst Studio a must-have, though I wasn't originally looking for another one, was the fact it was priced at a little over half what a used one typically sells for. I did have to pay almost $100 for shipping, but still a smokin' deal. And it is in perfect condition. A little fret wear where the previous owner played open position chords, old strings, and a little dirt on the fretboard, that's all. After a little lemon oil and fretboard oil on the fretboard and a new set of strings, she's ready to rock. No gouges, dents, dings or other relic'ing.

Thanks guys, for the kind words about the green one. It is mighty purty.
