NGD: HSS modding platform

Bought this the other day. The previous owner has done his fair share of moddinn: pickups, pots, switch, bridge, etc... I'm gonna replace those (except the bridge) as the guitar's been in the case for a year.

The body's ash (heavy as ****) and sounds okay. Tonal spectrum is quite opposite to my Jackson's: it's a bit scooped, and there is more actual high-end than presence. Not spectacular, but not bad. Definitely not terrible.

Very nice! I love ash! What are your plans for pickup changes?

I already bought a second hand AT-1. Always wanted to try that. Will use that as a starting point... the singles, I'm using stock for a while... but I'll be on the lookout for something brighter, like a STK-S7 or an Area 61.

Sweet! Hope you like the tone!

JFC. I put the wrong cap value in and how have to remove the neck and the pickguard again...

Oh well, at least I know the AT-1 sounds killer. Sounds like a neutered JB in a nice way.

Re: NGD: HSS modding platform

Guitars with pickguards need to have their necks removed to access the control cavities.

I've never had to remove a neck to take the guard off. I just loosen the screws, slide the guard out from under the fingerboard overhang (on 22 fret guitars anyway), and pull it off. Removing a guard without completely slackening the strings is a much bigger challenge.

*sigh*. I done goofed for years.

OMG :eek5:

I'm so sorry,

I thought you knew

I have only removed one neck from a guitar in my last 35 years of playing
(not counting the crappy acoustic I separated violently)

and that was only a few years ago
to take the neck to my cousin's shop to slot a new roller nut

Re: NGD: HSS modding platform

Damn it. Can't slide it off. Too tight.

Removes neck anyway XD

... and now, all is very well

Kewl!

What are the s/c?

Looks nice, mebbe a swimming pool route would lighten it up a bit?

They're rewound stock s/c. Not my style, but not terrible. Sounds kinda like Suhr v60lps. I might swap them out for STK-S7s, Texas Specials or Area 61s later.

The guitar's already routed for HSH, so a swimming pool isn't gonna help too much :haha:
