NGD, I have found my #1!!!!

So I just got this. t's a 2006 Gibson Custom Shop Historic 59 reissue VOS!!!!! I have wanted a Custom Shop Les Paul for quite a while now. With the financial trouble Gibson is in. I decided I better grab one now. If Gibson tanks, the prices on these will go through the roof.

This is the most incredible humbucker equipped guitar I have ever had in my hands. The tone is very balanced. It's not overly warm, it's not overly bright but, it has just enough highs to cut through a mix. The midrange has a complexity to it that is hard to describe. The tones I get by working the tone controls, make it like a library of classic Les Paul tones. It is acoustically very loud. It plays wonderful although it does need a set up. The pickups are Burstbuckers, though I not sure which specific ones (1 and 2, or 2 and 3). Very lively very resonate, amazing sustain. Sadly this guitar makes all my other dual humbucker guitars seem like toys in comparison. I thought I had some excellent guitars but this one is on a another level. In short, I have found my "Beast" (referring to Bernie Marsden's 59 Les Paul).

Re: NGD, I have found my #1!!!!

Gibson isn't going away. Prices will not go through the roof. If anything, they will actually go down.

But - Gibson politicking aside.

SWEET freaking Les Paul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: NGD, I have found my #1!!!!

Amazing!

Quick question, weren't those supposed to pack not Burstbuckers, but some sort of Custom Shop pickups specifically wound for those models?

It was exactly one of those RIs that made me fall in love with Les Pauls.
As I heard someone say... it had bass in the treble and treble in the bass.

Congratulations!

You would be referring to the Custom Buckers and those came a little later from what I have been able to gather on the Les Paul Forum. And that description of treble and bass is likely correct. Thank you. I am really loving this guitar.

She is a real Gem!!!!!!! I have been jonesing for one of these forever but have been trying to get something of this caliber tone wise but without spending the money. I wish I would have just bought one instead of messing around. I mean I thought my Carvin was the end all of Les Paul type guitars but it can't touch this one!

Back to Gibson politiking, I hope you are right about that.

Re: NGD, I have found my #1!!!!

Monster top! Congrats on getting one with looks and tone.

Custombuckers started in '13 along with hide glue I believe.

Re: NGD, I have found my #1!!!!

Now that is a GREAT Les Paul. Epiphones are OK, they are good.. even very good at best. For someone like Guitar Doc to call an Epiphone "great" is a wild exaggeration.

Re: NGD, I have found my #1!!!!

That's more or less how I felt when I got one. Since all I played was the LP I eventually sold the rest of them off.
I am actually thinking about doing this very thing and getting a 2nd RI. I think I have been ruined. :crying: My Carvin was custom made for me and just beautiful but it is a toy in comparison. It has nowhere near the tone, resonance or sustain as the Gibson. :disappoinThe Carvin is also very compressed sounding compared to the Gibson, which is much livelier and responsive to my playing dynamics. The Carvin is good but the R9 is otherworldly. I love my Strat and my Gretsch so those I will keep. I also have an Epiphone Es Les Paul that is not in my sig that while a good instrument, is a toy in comparison as well.

Dibs when it hits the classifieds!

:p Congrats!
:haha::haha::haha: Your hilarious!! If I could only keep one of my guitars, this would be the one. And thank you. It almost feels like I have stepped up to a real instrument. Even though I thought some of my other dual humbucker guitars were really instruments.

Re: NGD, I have found my #1!!!!

Beautiful. I'm green with envy.

How come the last photo looks like a different guitar?

Re: NGD, I have found my #1!!!!

Carvin made some very nice guitars. You may want to consider holding off on selling and revisit the Carvin after you've spent some more time with the LP. You may appreciate it for what it is. You may find that it's different but not in any way unworthy. Just something to think about.
