Re: NGD - I swear it was an accident
Sweet grab man!!! I came very close to trading my Midtown for a 99 S.G. that looked very similar the other day but I just couldn't stand to lose the Midtown. It sucks about the headstock but as long as it's got a solid repair job!!! I've been tempted to buy "Pro Repaired" Gibby's with headstock breaks in the past but without being able to physically play them before I pay I've always steered clear. Broken set-necks scare the hell out of me!!!
I've played a few repaired Gibby's that were done correctly & seemed just as solid as the day they were made! I've even seen a few that unless someone told you that it had been repaired you'd never know!!! Unfortunately for the most part they have been problematic in one way or the another. I had a Gretsch with a headstock break that I had "professionally repaired" (A idiot who had some epoxy & clamps) when I was like 16, it was alright unless the ambient room temperature was above 80* fahrenheit, after that it was like the glue would start to melt or warp & I couldn't get it to stay in tune even for one song...
LOL, I played that guitar for one of my very first gigs in high school. This particular gig was a outdoor event, we opened for another local band during our annual 4th of July carnival & the stage was just a wooden platform that sat 3-4 feet off the ground, no awning or anything? Once the sunlight hit the guitar it was like someone was turning down my tuning keys while I was playing!!!
After the first song one of our local police officers who was working the fair that day let me borrow his beautiful Martin M38 with a Duncan Woody sound hole pickup in it for the rest of the show. Luckily he had it in his cruiser & was dumb enough to let a 16 year old me use it for a couple 30 minute sets!!!
