Does anyone know what the dark stripes are?

The concentric knobs on the bottom i am having trouble with

The top does nothing and the bottom brings in a large boost in the bass

Re: NGD Ibanez content

Somewhere on the rear of the headstock, there should be a small sticker giving the model number. (Probably, SRX300 or 350.)

Control configurations have varied over time. The most recent models get five knobs for M.Vol, Balance, Treble, Middle, Bass.

Dual concentric controls could offer a range of possible functions. The obvious one would be stacked Treble 'n' Bass. The next most obvious pairing is Mid with centre frequency sweep.

Some Cort and cheapo Ibanez bass guitars used to come with N.Vol., B.Vol., Tone, Bass Booster.

Re: NGD Ibanez content

its a SR300M

I just looked it up
the serial number is I (Indonesia) 1105xxxx
that's 2011
the Manual for the 2011 says its

Volume
Balance
Concentric knobs - top Treble boost/cut --bottom Bass boost/cut
Style sweeper- boosts cuts the mid-range for finger style or Slap

So, three-band active EQ with a fancy name.

The top does nothing and the bottom brings in a large boost in the bass.

Give it a fresh 9v battery.

Nice! I've got an '04 SR300DX (Inga) and really love how she plays and sounds... paid about the same as you and she's worth every penny. I kind of like the balancer control and the concentric pot for bass/treble (I don't have the mid-sweep), although I hate having to change batteries! She doesn't give me much in the way of warning before she pukes out when the battery gets weak, so be careful of that. I got left high and dry once or twice playing at church because I didn't realize it was getting low!

Great find, I think you'll like it... and congratulations!

thinking of an Active / Passive switch and swapping the pickups for Carvin stacked humbucker/single

None of the Carvin pickups listed on their website will fit your bass, I don't think. I have a SR305 with pickup profiles that look like yours, and I just ordered replacement pickups for it. They are 4" x 1.5" EMG-40 size (I ordered Aguilars). If your pickups are the 4-string version, then they are probably EMG-35 size -- 3.5" x 1.5", and nothing on the Carvin bass pickup page has those dimensions. I could be wrong, though, measure your pickups to be sure.

I'm not sure if "stacked humbucker/single" meant "either/or" or "and", but you are better off with a pair of humbuckers or matched singles, not a mix of humbucker + single coil.

ya know I measured mine with my trusty digital calipers right after posting that
and they measured 4.25" wide by 1.33"
the Carvin soapbars are 4.25" by 1.25"

Re: NGD Ibanez content

They look like walnut
The 2011 catalogue called them rosewood

I think the 5 piece necks are more stable
