good advice! the 85 is much sweeter. My WM526 came with an 81/85 setup. put the 85 in the bridge and got a 60 for the neck. otherwise, I hated the emgs, now it not so blah sounding

Holy Fraking Shat!

This was the first Floyd equipped guitar that I have ever tried to put an initial setup on. These came from the factory with NO setup on them. And I'm pretty sure that's the reason I ended up with it, through the trickle down effect.

The spring adjustment was non-existent. At 440 standard, the back of the bridge stood straight up. The truss rod was completely neutral, no forward or backwards adjustment at all, just loose. And, I had to add a soft spring to the low end, just to even it all out.

So, after 8 hours of tweaking the piss out of this thing, it is as close as it's gonna get!

You Floyd guys just gained a few extra points in my book... That sucked! It took me all day!

Well, here she is. Spring tension, truss-rod, height, and intonation are as close to perfect as I will ever get it... I'm going to bed!

Now you just gotta change strings occasionally.
May need a tweak here & there at some point,but you're good to go for a bit!!!

^ Lol..yeah, It might be a good guitar to wean on. See if you dig the jackson/floyd deal, and then get yourself a decent one, NOT made in India..lol..and THEN sell it!

Didn't take long to figure out that I don't like it. I played it all day long yesterday, and half of the day today. I just don't get along with a trem. I've had several Floyd Rose equipped guitars, and I always get rid of them.

Pulled out my Explorer Pro, after an hour long jam on the Jackson, and the Gibby just won out again. I'll post it in the trading post if anyone is interested.

Nice work, adjusting intonation is a hoot, no :D?

Thankfully, Floyds are set and forget as long as you keep the same string gauge and change one string at a time.

Karpathion, I know you arent big on trems, so maybe you'll never get another, but just in case.. I used to suffer long with setting floyds. now I found an easier way as far as making in level. I have a ruler that I wrap in a soft cloth. I lay it under the back of the floyd accross the cavity. depending on the the height of the floyd, I lay it under the lock screws or further under. Where ever it needs to be to hold it level. then I adjust the claw/springs from there. Remove the ruler and if it droops back, put the ruler back and tighten the claw some more. perhaps that will help

It's not so much the setting up of the guitar. It's the way it feels.

I love working on guitars, amps, and pedals. It doesn't matter how aggravating it can be. A bad day messing with gear is still better than a good day at work.

The Floyd system, trems in general, 25.5 scale, and that bar, just do not feel right to me. I've played hardtails for 19 years. I don't really know anything else.
