NGD Jackson JS32T King V

I've been jonesing for a Flying V since I played my friends USA King V a while back. Unfortunately I don't have the kind of cash at the moment for a USA made guitar so I started looking at lower prices imports.

I played one of the JS32 Rhoads guitars at Guitar Center. I was impressed, but I didn't want to deal with a cheap Floyd. Of course the Floyded Rhoads was the only V they had in the store so I started looking online. I prefer the look of the King V to the Rhoads and once I saw a red one I was sold. I remember playing the cheap JS series guitars years ago and let's just say I was less than impressed. I don't know what happened to make them step their game up. These are great guitars.

There are a couple issues. The frets don't have any sharp edges, but they could use a polishing. The neck is straight, but there's a slight gap in the pocket. It's just enough that I can slide part of my pick between the neck and pocket. Plus the edge of the pocket looks like a tiny bit on the end chipped off. And the soldering job on the volume pot looks sloppy. No issues with the pot, I just noticed how sloppy it was.

Other than those issues it's a great guitar. This Chinese guitar is on the same quality level as some of my old Korean import guitars. I haven't had it an entire day yet, but I am sold on the V shape. It's very comfortable. This one has a very light basswood body so there is a little bit of neck dive if you let go of the neck. It is super comfortable regardless. I think I might have become a V guy.

Love that red! Needs a Ferrari sticker!!!

The bound neck is sweet. I look at those occasionally.

Re: NGD Jackson JS32T King V

I have a JS22 Dinky and the JS series is, to my surprise, really damn good. For such an affordable guitar it's really nice to play and well crafted and the stock PU's aren't terrible either (although I replaced them with Duncans).
Loving the red, gratz and enjoy it!

Re: NGD Jackson JS32T King V

Yeah, the JS Series has certainly come a long way.
Had 1 of the Kellys a while back(dots,no binding) & it had a great feel to it,but ended up trading it.

Almost scared to check out the new ones cause I'm so broke...
(edit:checked out the new ones-good thing the string-thru Kelly's not in Quicksilver)

They're Chinese made now, too? Pretty sure mine was made in India...

Congrats,Looks Great!
Enjoy!

+1 On the JS series stepping up their game, I've been VERY impressed with the new ones!

I love Vs but prefer the Rhodes version lol Sweet guitar still and the Jacksons, IMO, always had the best looking Vs out there!

Congrats and enjoy! :headbang:

Re: NGD Jackson JS32T King V

Thats not a pocket gap guys, Jacksons are so awesome and forward thinking, they give you a built in pick holder for when you are two hand tapping!! lol.. Yeah, import guitars are fast improving and I think they (Jackson) has gotten more concerned with keeping quality while offering a low price so they seem to have tighened up on putting out cheaply made guitars. And really seem more concerned with making a quality inexpensive guitar. There are gonna have to be some shortcuts for the price. Especially with binding too. Ive been pretty impressed with how nice of a guitar they are making for the money. I may be able to get a soloist after all.. : ) Though I am wickedly tempted by the king v!

Enjoy that new axe!!!

That's sweet man.
Always loved those Jacksons.
Everything but the pups I suppose...
Congrats.

Re: NGD Jackson JS32T King V

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Before I got this V I was playing a strat and wow. Even though this is the bottom tier Jackson series, the neck is very nice. I didn't realize how much I missed big frets and a flatter compound radius. Not going back. I haven't played this much in years.

Now I'm looking at some Jackson's X series and the USAs. Might have to start saving my spare change...

Jackson V - $250
reignited passion for playing - priceless!

Awesome to hear that!! Really awesome to see what a cool guitar can be had for little coin these days too! Heck, I didnt realize what those cost.. I shouldnt have looked cuz now I want a king v!!

Re: NGD Jackson JS32T King V

Holy Smokes!!! I had to get my pain pump refilled yesterday, so I had to go to my Dr in Jax. While in Jax, I stopped at GC to have a looksy.. On the wall, I see a used white Jackson Rhoads V on the wall. I cant recall the model and I dont see it on Jackson's site, but it was a JS and this was the LOWEST line one they make, no pickguard, standard bridge, etc. Being a Jackson/ charvel fanboy, and having read CDWiLLis' review of his new toy, I had to check it out. WOW!!! Seriously.. Being the lowest on the totem pole, I didnt expect much.. First, I picked it up... What the He???? It weighed nothing.. About the lightest guitar Ive ever played.. Expectation dropped.. Looking it over, I was visually impressed that it had a nice bound neck.. Plus. And, after having read CDWillis; review, I immediately looked at the neck pocket to see if it had a built in pickholder... Nope, snug as a bug.. Fret work was WAY above price point.. Nicely done. Other than no frills, I couldnt see anything visually that said shortcuts. I started to play it.. WOW.... Being as how it was so light, I expected zero sustain or punch. The thing played great! As far as feel and frets and all, again, WAY above price point! And the thing had punch and sustain in spades!!! I was blown away! Acoustically the thing sounded huge and sustained amazingly. Then, I looked at the price tag... $169... Jiminy Krickets!!! I spent probably 15 minutes TRYING SOOOOO hard to figure where I could get the money and justify the purchase... Sadly, Im alittle over extended right now, broke and Dont need another guitar. Although I was thinking I could put my Suhr Aldrich pickup in it.... Plus, Id love to have a V in the stable. But for me, Im funny in that I visually dont like guitars that have a bridge like that, espec on anything other than a strat. But yeah, very impressed and was VERY hard not to bring it home..

A note about the op. Yeah, the soldering is kinda sloppy, but one impressive detail is the zip tie on the wiring..

Would have loved to. didnt have time to stay in town for anything, had to get back to LC to pick up my daughter and drive her to Ocala for her counseling appt.. Went to dr, ran by my shed and swapped out the LP for my old Washburn Steve Salas and then back on the road. Spent the whole day in the car.. One of these days, I gotta get a shed here. Just dont have either time or truck.. they are cheaper here. and Id LOVE to have my stuff closer, for better access AND be able to check it more often

Re: NGD Jackson JS32T King V

All the JS Rhoads have pickguards now. The old ones didn't have pickguards, but the necks were unbound. After playing my King V I'm thinking about picking up a Rhoads in the future.
