NGD - koa maple rosewood ebony mahogany content

Re: NGD - koa maple rosewood ebony mahogany content

Sorry bout that. Pic wouldnt load from the phone. I wanted a washed blue dye, but warmoth said they wouldnt put a dye on this top. Not fancy enough. I'm open to your suggestions for the neck material- I have no experience with a Korina body and a floyd bridge combo, haha. It might be a shot in the dark.

@alex: why is it a pity? have you seen the super tight neckjoint of these? I've never ever seen a gibson with a neck joint this tight. really. and it's much nicer to have a bolt on when traveling.

I'm I guess a bit of a old fashioned type that only like gibson shapes with the traditional glue in neck. I don't think I could own any LP, SG flying V etc that was bolt on.
Strats/teles/jags are the opposite. I would want them to be bolt on only.

Oh yeah that one. Forgot about it...

Go with a wenge neck. Really. Amazing combination and feels superb.

@Alex that's a strange notion. Because Gibsons neck pockets aren't as good as they used to be, the wood are worse, hardware is worse etc etc. So you willingly chose an lesser instrument just because the neck joint connotation.

Not that I really mind. I have 22 warmoth les pauls and wouldn't trade each for a similar Gibson... Doesn't that say something about the Big G?

My personal favorite is Wenge/Mahogany 5-piece with an Ebony board. YMMV.

These two look phenomenal man, Zephyrs too!
Enjoy them in good health!!! :headbang:

Re: NGD - koa maple rosewood ebony mahogany content

My favorite necks are always singlepiece necks; rosewood, bubinga, purpleheart but maple or mahogany can be nice as well. as long as there is little or no finish, I'm good.

Re: NGD - koa maple rosewood ebony mahogany content

Do you like wenge/wenge or a combo? Or am I splitting hairs?

I used to love wenge, but now it has degraded to 'like'. I think it has too much mids and is too powerful. I prefer rosewood, bubinga and purpleheart. For some reason I'm also not fond of padouk. Don't know why. Feels amazing, sounds lovely (chunky yet bright) but I just don't like it.

Each person has their own opinion about quality, and about how they perceive quality. Have you checked every piece of wood that either Gibson or Warmoth puts out, or every neck joint of one is 'superior' than another - no.
Such sweeping statements just convince me you have an axe to grind rather than an objective opinion

Re: NGD - koa maple rosewood ebony mahogany content

I have tested over 300 Gibsons, owned over 50. Vintage and custom shop included. I think I know what I am talking about.

I just want to break open conventions, connotations and rusted, fixed ideas that make no sense and if the blunt axe is the only tool I have to hack at the roots of this ideas to open up ideas,so be it.

So in short you have an axe to grind.
