NGD LTD EC-1000 FR

Not exactly new as I got this nearly two weeks ago but I wanted to get It set up before posting it here
Anyway I wanted a new guitar for D standard as my Ibanez XPT700 wasn’t really doing it for me.
I had many guitars in consideration, RG550, RGD2120, LTD KH-602, LTD MK-600, Jackson RR24 Pro Series, Schecter Cygnus but I ended up Buying a LTD EC-1000 FR

Anyway specifications:
Mahogany Body with set thru Mahogany neck
24.75 scale length, Ebony Fretboard with 24 frets
Thin U neck shape
EMG 81/60 combo with Vol/Vol/Tone wiring
Floyd Rose 1000 Series Double Locking Trem
Grover Tuners
Things I like:
The les Paul shape this is my first experience with a Les Paul style guitar and I really like how it sits on my body especially when standing up.
The guitar is pretty loud acoustic and sustains really well.
The Thin U neck shape is very comfortable for me especially since this is my first High End LTD and that I’ve mainly used Ibanez for the last few years.
The neck joint is very nice and upper fret access is much better than traditional neck joints on this shape of guitar.
In D standard this guitar sounds very thick but still articulate which is very good for me.
The guitar came pretty well set up for E with Daddario (my Preference) and felt good right out of the box
I like the appearance because it just looks classy to me.

What I dislike:
I dislike the thinner body compared to traditional Les Paul style guitars
81/60 aren’t exactly my thing I’m thinking of replacing them with a Gold Covered EMG Het Set.
Couple of minor cosmetic imperfections shown Below:

Nice! I've always wanted a floyded LP-type.

As I posted in the Gibson2019 thread, my "perfect" LP would be a totally unbound glossy jet-black USA Studio with all gold and a floyd.

Congrats!

I love those guitars!!

Every time someone posts about these EC-1000's it just throws kindling on my GAS fire. Gorgeous axe. How do the EMG's sound? I know you said they aren't your cup 'o tea.

Well the 81/60 is a classic sounding set that has been on countless metal albums, it has the thing that EMGs and that is the incredibly consistent and reliable metal tone.
The 81 is pretty thick sounding but not flubby due to inherent compression on the pickup but it’s perfectly serviceable
In E standard is very metallica like you have a nice crunch and sizzle and it feels very nice under the hand.
In D standard it gets Thicker and almost sounds like it’s double tracked straight out of the amp.
I wish the 81 had a little more high end sizzle and a bit more clarity to it, also makes me miss the dynamics of the passive pickup
The 60 though is pretty nice and I like the pickup reacts to two string bends and how it harmonically responds, cleans are pretty good as well.
I want to swap them EMG James Hetfield Set as they are a mixture of 81/60 and a passive pickup, so it has more clarity and dynamics but still retains the consistency and thickness of an active pickup.
Oh the 81 is also killer for pick harmonics and divebombs and I understand why people really like them

I still like the standard 81/85(or 60) sets, but I can't imagine anyone wanting them in all their guitars.
Het-set sounds like a great idea since it's already setup for actives. Plus the Hets will match even better looks-wise IMO.

Yeah I’d go for the gold Het sound it goes for a more traditional black beauty vibe but with all the modern appointments such as the better upper fret access and the Floyd.

That's partly why I asked. I've just acquired a Schecter C-1 Platinum, which has the 81/85 set, and it isn't doing anything for me. But then again, I haven't really had the chance to wring them out much.

Never tried the 85 but Zakk Wlyde uses em, also really like C1 Schecters.

Yeah, the axe itself is cool. I gotta play with those pups some more though. But I don't want to steal your NGD thunder. That LTD is sweet.

Don’t worry about it, but thanks I really like it, I’m waiting for a few more things to post about...

Oh that's right, the Hets in gold would really bring the swag up a notch IMO. Good call.
