I have the Hetfield Iron Cross model. Quality is just as good as my 2015 Gibson Les Paul, I actually prefer the LTD due to the belly carve and jumbo frets.
The body may not be as thick as a Gibson, but most full thickness Gibson Les Pauls are routed out and weight relieved, while the thinner LTD’s are solid. My LTD weighs just as much as my Gibson

I heard the Het bridge has a distinct, elevated treble crispness, some like it, others don't.
Different from the 81's synthetic-like treble bite though.
Both those aspects are why I went with, and love, the 85 in the bridge. Fat, meaty, crunchy, chunky, and with room to add some additional high end freq of your choice if you want, instead of being stuck with a less pleasing one.

I really love the 85 in the bridge as long as the guitar/setup provides a somewhat solid low-end.
In basswood bodies it really doesn't work too well for me because the pickup and the guitar's natural tone are maybe just a bit too alike.(rounded lows and buttery smooth highs)

I got a Kramer 210 (alder/maple), I replaced Livewires (metal/neck) with EMG 85/81 and 85 is much better in the bridge that the 81. However in my all mahogany single cut (Ibanez arz800 w 81b/60n) the 81 sounds perfect in the bridge. So yes, it depends on the woods.
