NGD LTD EC-1000 FR

Re: NGD LTD EC-1000 FR

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, did you check the battery? I've "repaired" several acoustic/electrics by replacing the battery. One pup might be less sensitive to low voltage than the other one, creating the illusion that the battery is ok.

Yes I did, also checked the solder joints and no problem.
Took it in to the shop and if they can’t fix it then I’ll replace it

Re: NGD LTD EC-1000 FR

The EMG 81 just died so may have to replace it

Sorry to hear that but my gut tells me it was gonna go sooner or later. That guitar is so classy looking. I recently bought one in Purple with passives and love it

Yeah those look killer when I first started playing my dream guitar was a Purple Eclipse which didn’t really exist at the time.
I’m going to change them out to the James Hetfield Signature Set if the pickups need replacing .

Re: NGD LTD EC-1000 FR

I have a pair of these!
My number one is the ec1000asb (the amber sunburst flame top with the newer taper neck heel and a seymour JB/59 set) and an ec1000fr (see through black flame top) which I have modded with a pair of EMG Fat 55 pickups (hated the 81/60 set), brass fr big block, tremstopper and spring claw.
The amber sunburst with the seymours gives a great Thin Lizzy-ish tone, great for classic rock and the ec1000fr sounds great with the mods I have carried out, they make it a lot smoother than it was as stock.
They both have the abalone inlay which I love and rather nice neck profiles.

Re: NGD LTD EC-1000 FR

That's partly why I asked. I've just acquired a Schecter C-1 Platinum, which has the 81/85 set, and it isn't doing anything for me. But then again, I haven't really had the chance to wring them out much.

Have you looked at getting the 18v conversion kit? It is said to improve the sound without boosting output despite the voltage increase and is very cheap and easy to do/undo.

The one I bought has the Custom5/Jazz. I have come to the conclusion I prefer A5 mags. Neck fits like a glove too, ESP and Schecter are really nice stuff. Lot of guitarfor a reasonable price. BTW, hope you get that baby fixed up with minimal stress

No "kit" needed if battery clip in electronics compartment.... just some manicure scissors.

And if it's a routed battery box, gotta do some soldering anyway

Yeah, I have. I'll definitely check that out. It does have a battery box though.

did you swap them to 85b/81n ?

this would make both pups not working, not only 81.

I have tried it and reversed it almost after some hours of playing. It doesn't driver the amp so hard as the standard 9V circuit.

That is why I bought it as i found the 81/60 set too powerful.
I didnt bother fitting it though as I read about the (then) new FAT 55 set and fitted those instead as I wanted a more classic tone.
The brass big block, claw and tremstopper helped to smooth out the upper mids and highs too.

IMHO the 85 output-wise (at least according to what my ears perceive) is on par with dimarzio's ~ 350 mVolt range. (a little less than Blazes or Super Distortion). 81 is even weaker. I don't find EMG particularly hot. In fact I like them for a nice jazzy tone, at least in a mahogany guitar.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose but I did not really get along them at all, clean or dirty.
