NGD: MIJ Jackson DXMGT

I'm not entirely sure on the year but it's an incredibly fun guitar to play and sounds surprisingly good.

The EMG afterburner can be a bit OTT but if used carefully it's great fun.

Also I should add that my awesome girlfriend got me this as an anniversary present.

Congrats.

The AfterBurner sounds best IMO on about 3, with an amp gain setting that's not overly saturated, at least if it has HZ-3s in it. Never tried it with their other models.

Really nice guitars, but you gotta get rid of those EMG-HZ's. They suck the large one.

Happy NGD!

They aren't the best but they're certainly better than the Ibanez INF3/4 that came in the last RG that i bought.

That is true. Certainly usable, but still a far cry from a nice set of Duncans or even active EMGs

Actually the HZs weren't as bad as people say, IMO. The HZ3 is a PAF-ish type with a ceramic magnet, akin to a 59 with a ceramic or a lesser-powered Custom. The AB gives them an extra push to get them out of wimpy-ville.

They have a slightly open, vocal tone, IMO.

I've heard good things about those. I might see if i can score a set on ebay.

The J90C is a really good pickup, DD-ish, I'm not up on the others. I just sold one on here a while back for $20 or something. Look for one with the screw coil instead of both slugs, they're supposedly better, but the prices might reflect that notion, I don't know.

Just had a quick look on ebay. It's looking like £95 ish for the ones with screw coils. About £45 for ones that look like regular actives.

I may as well just get another Bulldog custom or maybe try the BKP blackhawk.

Re: NGD: MIJ Jackson DXMGT

I'm surprised no one has pointed out that your DXMGT is really a DKMGT.

DXMGT is a flat top with ugly headstock (IMO) and no boost.

Cheers! I wasn't 100% sure on the model it's just what i was told and i'm not too up on jacksons.

Re: NGD: MIJ Jackson DXMGT

I can't tell most of the DK models apart, either
They made like 50 billion variations with relatively minor differences over the years

Anyhoo, here's a vid I did a few years ago with EMG HZ3s and an AfterBurner. The AB was set just enough to hear it (about 3, if it had a knob with numbers on it)

The backing track was from a song called Away, done by Chad Coggin, and posted online by a mutual acquaintance with his permission (after Chad down-sampled it, so it's got a bit of "interweb compression" to it already).

I really do like the tone with these pickups. They don't blow you away when you hear them directly, but once you hear them in playback you realize how easy they are to mix, at least for solos.
