I see there are several threads on flangers in here, so I don’t want to rehash any of that. But I’m struck by how good this pedal sounds and just I wanted to just post my own general thoughts.
I’ve owned an EHX in the past, and I currently own a PastFX, so I know that sound. I wanted something different though, so I finally took a chance on the MXR. I snagged an open box unit so it was about 150 bucks with shipping. Luckily I have an MXR Isobrick on my studio board so providing the 18V was no problem.
Overall, I think I like this pedal much better than the Electric Mistress-style flangers I’ve tried. Those are kinda thin and watery sounding. The MXR is much more “full and natural” sounding to my ears, as I would describe it. I suspect that could be because of the 18V operation. I got the MXR Stereo Chorus about a year ago, which is also 18V. They sound great to together. Flanger into Chorus is a magical effect.
So yeah, MXR really knows what they are doing with these pedals. I’m throughly impressed with both. But this flanger truly sounds fantastic. Just my 2 cents.
