NGD!! My first Telecaster

I know some of you will shoot me for this, but I traded my 1992 MIJ Squier Strat (Wayne's World Edition) right back to the guy I got it from over a year ago for a new Squier Affinity Telecaster. This thing is in better condition than I've seen guitars in stores.

I've always wanted a telecaster and this one does not disappoint. It's metallic red, not a color I would have chosen but I'm ok with it. I was in the market for a tele while wanting to sell my strat and we had them for about the same price ... made it an even trade. I'll probably swap the bridge pickup with a Hot Rails for Tele when I find one used.

Pics coming when I get home.

Your stuff, do what you want

+1

I have to question whether the hot replacement pickup idea detracts somewhat from the Tele-ness that you said you wanted but, like it says in the quotation box, "your stuff".

Re: NGD!! My first Telecaster

Congrats! I love a telecaster. You can drop a hot pickup in them and turn the volume down and still get a little twang if you want it. Crank her back up and melt faces. Best of both worlds

Re: NGD!! My first Telecaster

tele's are delish. Make no mistake - some of the best electric guitar of all time came from a tele. They are fantastic, versatile and amazing instruments!

I finally got around to taking a picture. So here goes ...

I want to add a Hot Rails because I'm much more of a humbucker player than a single coil guy. I love the shape of a tele, though. The stock pickups do sound nice though.

Re: NGD!! My first Telecaster

Congrats.
FWIW, I don't think anyone will shoot you for getting what you want. We all have our own GAS. Fill 'er up!

If you want the basic sound with a bit 'more', I recommend the STK-T2b Hot Stack for Tele. I have one in my Tele and it's great for Zeppelin to G'NR style rock. It wouldn't be my first choice for metal, but it'll cover other bases pretty well. In terms of output, I'd say it's roughly equivalent to a hot PAF.

Re: NGD!! My first Telecaster

I wouldn't shoot you (cause you did get what you want) but (this is a big but) IF you did a straight trade, then you definitely got the short end of the stick as that strat goes for about 2x what an affinity tele does new.

Re: NGD!! My first Telecaster

Yeah it was a straight trade. It was a bit beat up physically. A local trade and not too many people down here know that the MIJ squiers were awesome. They can't see past the "Squier" label.

Re: NGD!! My first Telecaster

Oh and the tele had only been played once since the guy bought it around Christmas.

We wanted the same price so it made sense.
