NGD - my first USA Jackson. Au Natural PC1

I got this from ebay. I'v never seen a PC1 go for less than about £1700 in the UK, so I was stunned to win the bidding for this at just £1050!
The pics on the auction were crap though, so I was slightly miffed to find the thing is absolutely filthy. I mean, disgustingly so. The previous owner must have been a coal miner that just came straight from the pit and started playing this guitar without washing first.
Not only is the fretboard black, the actual body is too in a few places.
I posted a thread about it on the Jackson Charvel Forum (JCF Online) and have been getting some advice about cleaning it. Tried some naphtha last night and it made the black marks grey so it's a start...

Thing is, it plays and sounds incredible. And for the price I paid I can't really complain! I just hope I can get it looking as good as it once did. If anyone has any tips, please let me know. I don't mind dings and even gouges but....dirty looking is not doing it for me.

The black marks just make it look played in to me, I like it.

I ALWAYS wanted a PC1, but they are £3000 new over here. I just couldn't justify that (and I couldn't afford it either!) which is why I bought my SL3.

It didn't have a sustainer though...so I got a DK2S.

The PC1, if I can ever get it clean, will be the number 1, supplanting the SL3 which has been a fantastic guitar for me.

I dunno man...I was the guy that made a copy of Chris Holmes's "yellow sh*t" star but....I want a PC1 to look all shiny and sparkly! This just looks dirty and it's really p***ing me off. Hopefully I can at least get the fretboard dirt off, I think that might make the overall picture less disgusting.
The super-pristine headstock looks totally out of place! :lmao:

incredible. its all pale like a British tourist.

I love that guitar its beautiful

Congrats on the new purchase! But I don't see what's wrong with it...I like the look of a well played maple board! And I've seen guitars that were really filthy...makes yours look new! ;) And props on the SL3, aweosme guitar!

Haha, I know who you are now, Mr. Sneaky Pants.

Hell, I'm trying to make the warmoth neck on my destroyer look like that, so... I should go mine some coal?

I started a thread in the sound room saying who I was as my first post! :firedevil

Ashburnipal, I have more Jacksons! I personally love the JB, and yeah, the PC1 has a fat neck, but so does the SL3 (I think the SL3 neck might be even thicker). The only Jackson I have with a super thin neck is the black JDR-94 Concept. The rest have medium or thick ones. I like 'em all!

Just the (other) Jacksons

^^ Hmm, I'll have to try one out should I chance upon it, as a bona fide superstrat guy :). However, I've never seen a USA Jackson in a store, just eastern imports.

Yeah, those are all Japanese mostly, with one or two of the newer ones from China or India (I think). The PC1 is the only USA Jackson I've had but, honestly, even the cheaper Jacksons now are kicking ass IMO. The King V and Rhoads are, I think, from India, while the Kelly is Chinese (again, I think. I don't take much notice of where they come from as long as they play well). All are neckthrough with neck binding and are much better, IMO, than the Japanese bolt-on versions I had in the past.
If you're a big superstrat fan try the SLX.

I want one in blue, but the price is unjustifiable, ha. HNGD, man.

Even with the discoloration it's beautiful. I agree that clean would be best, but the worn look does give it character. I'd play that happily.

Re: NGD - my first USA Jackson. Au Natural PC1

Cheers! I got some lemon oil today, it's made it a little shinier and brings out the quilt a bit better, so I'm getting there.
It is an absolute monster of a guitar in every other way, I LOVE it. The sustainer is better than the one on the DK2S, I'm having a lot of fun flicking it in and out during solos.

Re: NGD - my first USA Jackson. Au Natural PC1

Classy guitar. Congrats! Never played with sustainers before myself. Anyhow, get that thing cleaned up then enjoy!

The sustainiac on the DK2S is fun, but can be quite difficult to control. The Floyd Rose sustainer on the PC1 is more usable and, as a result, more fun.
I've just tried a toothbrush and naphtha but this thing isn't cleaning. It's really annoying me, especially the fretboard, it's just so filthy! Not sure what to do next, but sandpaper is tempting...

Re: NGD - my first USA Jackson. Au Natural PC1

I would not use sand paper. Maybe some 0000 steel wool, but it will still cut through the finish a bit if you aren't careful.
