NGD!... New Gibson Goldtop Traditional

I picked this Gibson Les Paul traditional Goldtop up this week when SamAsh had the closeouts going on. The thing is an absolute beauty, no QC issues at all. It weights in at a hefty 10.4 lbs according to my digi scale, it's definitely the heaviest guitar I own. The stock pickups are the 57 classic and 57 classic plus they sound ok but I'll probably go with some Seth's or maybe some BK Mule's. As for how she looks I'll probably change out the knobs and that will be about it unless I go with cream bobbins but I think she looks perfect as she is. Here's a few pics

Nice! I really love goldtops with black plastics. Makes the gold pop more IMO.

Fantastic looking Paul, if I buy just one more guitar it will be a Gold Top. Enjoy it, it's a real beaut!

Thanks guys. I played it about 6 hours last night and she is a keeper

She's a real beaut. For the past 45 years I've loved gold tops with P-90s. I finally got one last year. I wouldn't change a thing about yours, at least for a few months after you've had a chance to play the heck out of it and get used to it. A lot of people really dis the Classis 57 pups, but I actually love that sound. I only have the 57 in one of my LPs, but I'll never change it. I don't use it for everything I play (I play such a variety of songs), but it sounds great for what it does.

Glad to see someone was able to take advantage of the sam ash deals, wish I could've, that burst finish sg I saw made my eyes hurt.
Congrats on the Goldie, she sure is purdy.

Nice. I've got one just like it that will be 23 years old this year. It's been in my top 3 players for about 15 years.

I've seen gold tops with 3 different backs. Light, like yours. Caramel colored like mine, and then a darkish brown that I like the least.

Thanks for the complements guys. Hey GJ what pickups have you got in yours?

Re: NGD!... New Gibson Goldtop Traditional

I've actually used that gold top as the test bed for any new pickups I get. It's also got pull up tone pots to split the coils.
For a few years it's had unoriented roughcast Custom 5 and a Jazz Bridge in the neck. This is my 'do it all LP' so those loud and bold pickups sound good full or split. The Jazz B neck splits about like a strat neck in a LP.
