NGD: NOS G&L

Re: NGD: NOS G&L

That's a fine guitar. The flame maple is really nice. Can't say the pickguard helps the looks but if you're going to need it, by all means put it on. Cool you could find a NOS one. Congrats.

Re: NGD: NOS G&L

Thread resurrection.

Just traded a bass to obtain a barely used trans black Ascari GTS. Its flamed veneer top is less conspicuously displayed than on the red finish. In the unlikely event that I did make a pickguard, it would barely show.

Specification includes Gotoh Tone Pros bridge and tailpiece. The in-house humbuckers come across as strongly reminiscent of a JB/'59n pair. Coil split via a push-pull pot. The selector switch and pots are cheap Cortek rubbish.

I may upgrade some of the electronics. I could go active solderless. I might just flip the guitar to get another bass.

Re: NGD: NOS G&L

If I'm getting a G&L, I'm getting one of these. ASAT Classic S ladies and Gentlemen. Looks like a Tele, sounds like a Strat, pull the volume knob pot and disengage the middle pick-up and make it sound like a Tele. It's like having 2 guitars in one. Beautiful.

Nice axe, good concept, but I personally prefer the ergonomics of Strats to Teles, so just gimme the Legacy with the same neck-on switch and I'd be a happy camper.

Re: NGD: NOS G&L

We are trying your guitar's pick guard as jury of your peers. No guard is my vote (do any of us really get a vote?) Nice score.

Re: NGD: NOS G&L

Looks awesome. I'm a big fan of those PRS style guitars that aren't PRS's. The Paul Reed Smiths always seem to have really twangy pickups and I'm not a big fan of the bridges on them.

Re: NGD: NOS G&L

Oh, forgot to add...no pickguard--that top is too nice!

Bill

I fully agreee!!! keep it nekkid!!! congrats!! nice score!! I didnt realize they went to diff components on later runs. Seems to be common place in the market. IMO its almost like bait and switch and really tarnishes a company's rep in my eyes..

Re: NGD: NOS G&L

Thinking about selling this one as part of a downsizing/purging effort. It's not that I don't like it. It's just that it's my newest guitar, and I haven't dumped any money or effort into modding it yet, so it's easier to let it go than most. Also, I have been so busy at work this year that I haven't got to play it much, so we're not bonded yet. I never put a guard on it, FWIW.
