NGD: Pre-pro mutt thing day

In my continuing quest to either use or sell off some parts, I have constructed the following.

I had this beautiful birdseye Charvel spec (2-1/4" heel) neck on the wall for gotta be close to a decade, and I knew I would use it for something one day.

Everything but the body was in my parts stash, and when the body came up for sale, I knew just what to do. I went for that early '80's Charvel pre-pro look with all the brass bits.

I am still "so-so" on the purple guard over say a red one, but I was going for something different.

The pickups are DiMarzio VHPAF and two HS3 singles wired in the Suhr fashion. Very light and resonate sounding, and just a blast to play.

Wow, I would love to put a neck like that, or a super flamey one, on my MK Strat.

However, what you put together looks really cool. Another great build.

That has been my problem. I troll ebay and the classifieds and jump on parts that are a good deal with no real plan for most of them. I have built up so much "stuff" that I am out of room and some of it just needs to go.

I have sold off mostly pickups and some guitars, but I still have several tele parts that need a purpose or a new home.

Some guys collect pedals, I seem to collect parts. :D

Hey, we all end up with too much of something. It could be a lot worse.

Re: NGD: Pre-pro mutt thing day

You’re killing me lately with your projects. Personally, I love the black/ purple look, another great job!

Re: NGD: Pre-pro mutt thing day

Love that neck... the figuring on the back is just incredible!

Also I think that purple guard looks pretty sharp. Red would be okay too, but the purple has more character and is more unique.

Re: NGD: Pre-pro mutt thing day

I have a bunch of weird pickguards and it came down to red or purple pearl. I liked the red, but the purple was different.

I have to say that of all my recent builds, this is the most fun to play. You never know what you are going to get when you put these things together. This guitar is just perfect and is totally a keeper.

The Suhr wiring works very well. I wasn’t sure it was going to be worth the hassle, but I am completely happy with the sound.

Re: NGD: Pre-pro mutt thing day

I wasn’t aware that Suhr was unique in terms of wiring. What’s the difference?

Re: NGD: Pre-pro mutt thing day

John Suhr has a unique way of wiring a HSS guitar so that the singles “see” 250k and the humbucker 500k.

John has simplified since this verson, but it is the one I found just now

Current Suhr HSS wiring (I eliminated the bridge tone and the treble bleed on mine)

Is that #4 for the year? That neck is awesome.

Is it?

This one was not even planned. I just happen to see the body for sale and everything just feel into place.

The rest of the parts I have had for at least ten years.
