Dragonfire pickups. They sound great but this grounding issue is bugging me.

Re: NGD: Project Squier Bullet! Already done a pickguard swap :)

I fixed the grounding problem, now she sounds great! the only problem now is to replace the High E String's Tuner and then get a new High E put on, then a setup :)

Re: NGD: Project Squier Bullet! Already done a pickguard swap :)

The machineheads on those guitars are pretty cheap 'n' nasty. If one of them has failed, the others will not be far behind. Might be wise to invest in a complete set of new ones - maybe even locking ones.

Brands like Ping and Wilkinson should prove cost effective. The Wilkinson E-Z Lock double drilling idea works - sort of. The proof of this is in the difficulty of extracting the ends of old or broken strings.

You seem to be on the receiving end of a good many of these charitable donations. I appreciate that these keep you occupied and save the expense of further pawn shop acquisitions.

There is another interpretation.

Whilst appearing to be generous, members of your community are, in fact, dumping their non-functioning junk on you. Attempting to repair some of these items is learning experience. One of the things that I hope you are learning is that these Projects are eating up your time in exchange for little or no financial reward. Worse, the money that you invest in replacement parts will never be recouped.

Tot up the number of Dollars that you have spent on budget guitars and aftermarket parts. Continue to tot up the figures. You should be able to estimate how long it will take until you have piddled away enough funds to have purchased a respectable guitar outright.

Raph kindly referred to my experience gained through working on guitars in most price ranges. He may be hinting at the notion that, generally, we get what we pay for. The budget guitar that is truly a match for professional equipment is a rare, chance occurrence. No amount of wishful thinking can change this.

I like to draw an analogy from motor racing. If you are not driving to win, should you even take the wheel?

If you desire the benefits of a professional quality Superstrat, accept nothing less. In the words of one of my favourite Hancock episodes, you have to "pay up and try to look big."

What a ****ing minute. I guess i'm the only one who watched the video.

Do you have a band aid on the spring claw to hold the ground on?

Oh man you're one of a kind buddy.

"I fixed the grounding problem."

"Yes that's a band-aid on the string claw to keep the ground wire there."

I mean never, even in my own budget guitar delirium, would I ever try to solve a wiring issue with something like a band-aid.

Nathan, sincerely, take whatever money you had set aside for your next budget project and invest in a decent soldering iron. Based on a cursory glance at Bunnings' website, a 30 watt iron, some solder, and a desoldering pump will run you about $30.

Re: NGD: Project Squier Bullet! Already done a pickguard swap :)

@JTK. Nathan must have access to a soldering iron of some description in order to have installed the Dragonfire pickups/pickguard assembly.

When I paused the video, the image of the vibrato spring cavity was too murky to tell what, if anything, was attached to the spring tension "claw". There did, however, appear to be a broad, lightly coloured object on the underside of the vibrato sustain block.

I can not think of a single occasion when I have seen the grounding wire attached to the moving parts of a vibrato bridge. It invites failure through mechanical wear. That, in turn, risks electrocution.

Yes. I survived watching the video. I am withholding any comments in a vain attempt to discourage the practice of fishing for compliments.

Re: NGD: Project Squier Bullet! Already done a pickguard swap :)

Well, I soldered the ground wire to the claw, because it was made that way and yes I did buy a soldering iron. Unfortunately I need to get my Hammond's motor rebuilt too.
