NGD PRS McCarty: so much for New Year resolutions

I went to my local GC last week. They had all their PRS and EBMM guitars with Clearance tags on them. Prices marked down $100's, as in the last week of November last year, when I bought a 305 for $1000 below their usual price.
Last November, this 25th Anniversary McCarty Narrow Field caught my eye. I'd watched a demo video of the Swamp Ash Special with Narrow Field pickups and thought it would be a cool Strat-style guitar with some unique twists. The local GC didn't have a Swamp Ash Special, but I took home this McCarty.

The Narrow Field pickups pretty much do what PRS claims. I had a little guitar shootout in my living room over the weekend. The McCarty doesn't sound quite as full or have as much output as my Hamer Monaco Elite Mahogany with Duncan '59's. But the McCarty is louder and fatter sounding than Strat-style guitars including my 305, or my Godin Progression.
Might be a great instrument for single coil sounds with some extra beef and crunch. The neck Narrow Field pickup is like a single coil, but thicker and bluesy sounding. I can see this guitar being very handy for the classic prog rock and blues that I record.

Congrats! Pretty guitar.

The narrowfields kinda remind me of a deluxe style mini with a little less aggression in the mids.

I love PRS rosewood necks.

I love PRS bound necks.

I love PRS McCartys.

Congratulations, you have given me the ultra-rare jelly trifecta.

That's such a beautiful piece. Congratulations! Are you going to play it or just display it?

Sweet!! I've already obliterated my New Year's resolution to spend less also(MkIV). Oh well. :knockedou

I think it's cool that PRS has latched onto a proprietary pickup that's it's own thing. Having a different set of tones in the stable is a great thing.

That's a beauty of a guitar too. Great finish.

As with all my other guitars, I buy them to play them. I don't get to do as much playing/recording as I'd like, but they get played when I have time.

You are a lucky man.... There is something about those rosewood head stocks... beautiful guitar!

Re: NGD PRS McCarty: so much for New Year resolutions

That looks like an awesome neck!
I was thinking I should say a few words about the neck. You can see in the photo the binding on the fretboard extends out a little past the ends of the frets. What really impresses me is PRS rounded off the top edge and side of the binding in a way that makes the edges of the fretboard really nice and comfortable.
I own other American made guitars. But the attention to every detail, such as on the fretboard edges on these PRS's just amazes me. They are flawless.

The back of the neck has a soft V contour. Pretty different from the wide-fat and wide-flat PRS necks I have tried in the past. I'm a relatively recent PRS owner (since 2011 when I got my 305) but I've had the chance to briefly play a few others in years past.

I love soft V necks... I bet I would like that neck... I know I like the Nash boat necks, for sure...
